Wegovy® Pill (semaglutide) for Weight Management

  • ✔ Once-daily tablet for eligible adults
  • ✔ Needle-free alternative to injectable treatment
  • ✔ UK pharmacist or prescriber assessment required

A New Daily Tablet Option for Weight Management

Managing overweight or obesity can be challenging, even when you are making positive changes to your diet and activity levels. Body weight is influenced by many factors, including appetite, hormones, genetics, medical conditions and everyday lifestyle. For eligible adults in the UK who want a needle-free prescription option, Wegovy® Pill is a once-daily semaglutide tablet approved for weight loss and weight management to use alongside diet and exercise.

Wegovy® Pill is a prescription-only medicine containing semaglutide. It is the first GLP-1 receptor agonist tablet approved in the United Kingdom for weight loss and weight management in eligible adults, and this guide explains how it works, who may be eligible, what clinical trial results have shown, how dosing and side effects are managed, how it compares with other weight management medicines, and why lifestyle changes still matter during treatment.

According to the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), Wegovy® Pill became the first GLP-1 receptor agonist tablet approved in the UK for weight management in eligible adults in June 2026.

At NuMe, we recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to weight management. Every patient has different health needs, medical history and treatment goals, and for some eligible adults with established cardiovascular risk, semaglutide-based treatment has also been associated with cardiovascular protection. Before Wegovy Pill can be prescribed, your online consultation will be carefully reviewed by a qualified healthcare professional to determine whether it may be a suitable option for you and the right fit within a broader health plan.

Treatment decisions are always based on individual clinical circumstances. Not everyone who completes an assessment will be suitable for this medicine.

Meet Wegovy® Pill

Wegovy Pill is a once-daily prescription tablet designed to support weight management in eligible adults without the need for weekly injections.

According to NHS guidance on semaglutide, the medicine works by helping to regulate appetite, increasing feelings of fullness and reducing hunger, and should be used alongside healthy eating and physical activity where prescribed. By acting on the same receptors, semaglutide helps your body respond to meals in a way that may support reduced hunger and increased feelings of fullness.

For many people, managing weight is about more than willpower alone. Hormonal signals influence when you feel hungry, how satisfied you feel after eating and how much food you consume. Wegovy Pill works alongside these natural processes and may help some people make sustainable dietary changes.

Because it is supplied as a tablet, Wegovy Pill offers a needle-free alternative for adults who may prefer not to use injectable medicines. It also does not require refrigeration, making it convenient for everyday use at home, work or while travelling, provided it is stored according to the manufacturer's instructions.

At NuMe, Wegovy Pill is only prescribed following an appropriate online consultation. Your assessment allows a qualified healthcare professional to consider your medical history, current medicines, Body Mass Index (BMI) and any weight-related health conditions before deciding whether treatment is appropriate.

Clinical Trial Results

76%

In a 64-week clinical study involving adults living with obesity, or overweight with at least one weight-related medical condition, 76% of adults taking Wegovy Pill lost 5% or more of their body weight, measured against their starting body weight, compared with 31% of people receiving placebo, when both groups also followed a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

The same study reported an average body weight reduction of 13.6% after 64 weeks among participants taking Wegovy Pill, compared with 2.4% in the placebo group. Overall, clinical trials showed weight loss in the region of 13% to 16% of body weight, although individual responses varied.

Early responders in the clinical trials lost about 22% of their body weight by week 64, though individual outcomes varied.

According to the OASIS 4 clinical trial, adults receiving oral semaglutide together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity achieved greater average weight loss than those receiving placebo. Individual responses varied.

What Is Wegovy® Pill?

Wegovy Pill is a prescription medicine used to support weight management in eligible adults.

It contains the active ingredient semaglutide, which belongs to a group of medicines known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

GLP-1 is a hormone that your body naturally releases after eating. It helps regulate appetite by sending signals that influence hunger and fullness.

By activating GLP-1 receptors, semaglutide may:

  • Help you feel fuller after meals.
  • Reduce feelings of hunger between meals.
  • Support lower calorie intake for some people.
  • Help make healthier eating habits easier to maintain.

The medicine is licensed for weight management in eligible adults who meet the approved prescribing criteria. It should always be used alongside lifestyle measures, including healthy eating and regular physical activity.

Unlike injectable GLP-1 medicines, Wegovy Pill is taken orally once each day in pill form. This provides an alternative option for people who may prefer tablets rather than injections.

The most appropriate prescription weight management medicine depends on your individual health needs, treatment preferences, clinical assessment, and whether other weight loss treatments may be more suitable. Your healthcare professional will discuss the available options if more than one treatment may be suitable.

Your Wegovy® Pill Treatment Pathway

Starting a prescription weight management medicine is an important decision that should be supported by appropriate medical guidance. Wegovy Pill is introduced gradually, allowing your body time to adjust to treatment while helping to reduce the likelihood of certain side effects.

Every treatment plan is personalised. Your healthcare professional will consider your medical history, current medicines and how you respond to treatment before deciding whether dose increases are appropriate.

Before You Begin

Before Wegovy Pill can be prescribed, you will complete an online consultation.

This assessment allows a qualified healthcare professional to review information including:

  • Your height and weight.
  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI).
  • Any weight-related medical conditions.
  • Previous weight management treatments.
  • Current prescription and non-prescription medicines.
  • Allergies.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding status.
  • Relevant medical history.

If further information is needed, your healthcare professional may contact you before making a prescribing decision.

This assessment helps ensure that Wegovy Pill is prescribed safely and only when it may be appropriate.

Starting Treatment

Treatment usually begins with an initial Wegovy Pill dose of 1.5 mg taken once each day.

Beginning with a lower dose gives your body time to adapt to the medicine. This gradual approach may help reduce the digestive side effects that are commonly reported during the early stages of treatment.

The starting dose is intended to introduce the medicine rather than provide the full treatment effect.

Gradual Dose Escalation

If you tolerate treatment well, your dose may be increased gradually according to the recommended prescribing schedule.

The typical Wegovy Pill dosages progression is:

  • 1.5 mg once daily
  • 4 mg once daily
  • 9 mg once daily
  • 25 mg once daily (maintenance dose, where appropriate)

Not everyone will require the highest maintenance dose. Your healthcare professional will decide whether dose increases are appropriate based on your response to treatment, any side effects you experience and your overall health.

You should not increase your dose without medical advice.

Ongoing Treatment Reviews

Weight management is an ongoing process rather than a short course of treatment.

If treatment is stopped, some people may regain weight over time as appetite and weight can return if lifestyle changes are not maintained.

During treatment, your healthcare professional may review:

  • Your progress.
  • How well you are tolerating the medicine.
  • Any side effects.
  • Changes to your medical history.
  • Your progress with healthy eating and physical activity.
  • Whether continuing treatment remains appropriate.

These reviews help ensure that treatment continues to meet your individual healthcare needs.

If You Are Changing from Another Weight Management Medicine

Some people may wish to change from an injectable GLP-1 medicine to Wegovy Pill because the tablet and injection contain the same active ingredient, semaglutide, but use different dosing and administration plans.

Any change between prescription medicines should only take place following advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

Different medicines have different dosing schedules and treatment plans. Your prescriber will advise whether changing treatment is appropriate and explain how any transition should be managed safely.

Understanding How Wegovy® Pill Works

Wegovy Pill has been developed to support weight management by working with your body's natural appetite regulation system.

After you eat, your body releases hormones that help regulate hunger and fullness. One of these hormones is GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1).

Semaglutide acts in a similar way to this naturally occurring hormone by activating GLP-1 receptors.

As a result, the medicine may:

  • Help you feel satisfied sooner during meals.
  • Help you remain full for longer after eating.
  • Reduce hunger between meals.
  • Support lower calorie intake for some individuals.

Rather than forcing weight loss, Wegovy Pill supports biological processes involved in appetite regulation. Healthy eating habits and increased physical activity remain essential parts of treatment.

What You Can Realistically Expect

Every person's response to Wegovy Pill is different.

Some people notice changes in appetite during the first few weeks of treatment. Others experience gradual changes as their dose increases.

Weight loss is influenced by many factors, including:

  • Your starting weight or starting body weight.
  • Dietary habits.
  • Physical activity.
  • Sleep quality.
  • Other health conditions.
  • Medicines you take.
  • How consistently you take your tablet.

Clinical studies provide information about average outcomes across large groups of people, but they cannot predict individual results.

Your healthcare professional will encourage you to focus on sustainable progress rather than rapid weight loss.

Why Lifestyle Changes Still Matter

Prescription medicines are intended to complement healthy lifestyle habits, not replace them.

Long-term weight management is usually supported by combining treatment with realistic, sustainable changes to everyday routines.

Healthy Eating

Choosing balanced meals that include vegetables, fruit, wholegrains, lean protein and healthy fats may support your overall health during treatment.

Many people also find it helpful to eat regular meals and be mindful of portion sizes.

Highly restrictive diets are generally difficult to maintain over the long term and should only be followed if advised by a healthcare professional.

Physical Activity

Regular movement supports both physical and mental wellbeing.

You do not need to begin with intensive exercise. Walking, swimming, cycling, gardening or other enjoyable activities can all contribute towards a more active lifestyle.

Building activity gradually often feels more manageable than making sudden, dramatic changes.

Sleep

Good quality sleep plays an important role in appetite regulation, energy levels and overall wellbeing.

Developing consistent sleep habits may support your broader weight management plan.

Staying Hydrated

Drinking enough water each day supports normal body functions.

Maintaining good hydration may also be particularly important if you experience digestive side effects such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

Creating Sustainable Habits

Successful long-term weight management is often based on small, consistent improvements rather than short-term changes.

Your healthcare professional may encourage you to set realistic goals, monitor your progress and build habits that fit into your everyday life.

For many people, these gradual lifestyle changes remain valuable throughout treatment and beyond, with supervised therapy also playing a longer-term role as a weight management treatment to help keep weight off alongside sustainable habits.

Directions for Use

Wegovy® Pill should always be taken exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional. Following the recommended dosing instructions helps ensure that the medicine is used safely and as intended.

Before starting treatment, read the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine. If you are unsure about any aspect of taking Wegovy Pill, speak with your pharmacist or prescriber before beginning treatment.

When to Take Wegovy® Pill

Wegovy Pill is taken once each day.

For the medicine to be absorbed properly, it should be taken:

  • On an empty stomach.
  • With a small amount of plain water.
  • At the same time each day where possible.

After taking your tablet, wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than plain water, or taking other medication. This helps the medicine work as intended.

Taking your tablet as part of a regular daily routine may make it easier to remember your treatment.

How to Take Wegovy® Pill

Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Keep it intact so it stays in contact with the stomach lining for proper absorption.

Do not crush, chew or split the tablet unless specifically advised in the manufacturer's instructions.

If you have difficulty swallowing tablets, speak with your healthcare professional before starting treatment. They can discuss whether another treatment option may be more appropriate.

If You Miss a Dose

If you forget to take your tablet, follow the advice in the patient information leaflet or the instructions provided by your prescriber.

Do not take an extra tablet to make up for a missed dose.

If you are unsure what to do after missing a dose, contact your pharmacist or healthcare professional for advice before taking your next tablet.

Storage

One advantage of Wegovy Pill is that it does not require refrigeration.

Store the medicine according to the manufacturer's recommendations, keeping it:

  • In its original packaging.
  • Away from excess heat and moisture.
  • Out of the sight and reach of children.

Always check the expiry date before taking your medicine.

How Long Will Treatment Continue?

The length of treatment varies from person to person.

Your healthcare professional will review your progress at appropriate intervals to determine whether Wegovy Pill remains suitable for you.

Treatment decisions are based on your individual response, your overall health and whether the medicine continues to form part of an appropriate long-term weight management plan.

Why an Online Consultation Is Required

Wegovy Pill is a prescription-only medicine and should only be supplied after an appropriate clinical assessment.

An online consultation allows your healthcare professional to determine whether treatment may be suitable while helping to ensure that prescribing decisions are made safely and responsibly.

Protecting Patient Safety

Not every weight loss medication is suitable for every individual.

Your consultation helps identify any medical conditions, medicines or personal circumstances that may influence whether Wegovy Pill is an appropriate option.

This process helps reduce avoidable risks and supports safe prescribing.

Assessing Your Eligibility

Your clinician will review information such as:

  • Your Body Mass Index (BMI).
  • Any weight-related health conditions.
  • Previous weight management treatments.
  • Current medicines.
  • Allergies.
  • Relevant medical history.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding status where applicable.

Eligibility is assessed on an individual basis.

Meeting the BMI criteria alone does not automatically mean that Wegovy Pill will be prescribed.

Reviewing Other Medicines

Some medicines may affect how Wegovy Pill should be used or may require additional monitoring.

It is important to provide a complete and accurate list of:

  • Prescription medicines.
  • Pharmacy medicines.
  • Herbal products.
  • Vitamins.
  • Food supplements.

If your medicines change during treatment, inform your healthcare professional so that your treatment plan can be reviewed if necessary.

Ongoing Clinical Support

Safe prescribing does not end once your medicine has been supplied, and follow-up forms part of a supervised weight loss treatment plan.

Follow-up reviews provide an opportunity to discuss:

  • Your progress.
  • Any side effects.
  • Questions about treatment.
  • Lifestyle changes.
  • Whether treatment remains appropriate.

These reviews support informed decision-making throughout your weight management journey.

Is Wegovy® Pill Right for You?

Wegovy Pill may be suitable for adults who meet the licensed prescribing criteria and whose healthcare professional believes the medicine is appropriate following a clinical assessment.

According to the approved eligibility criteria, treatment may be considered for adults who:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or above, or
  • Have a BMI between 27 kg/m² and 30 kg/m² together with at least one weight-related health condition, such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.

Your healthcare professional will also consider your medical history, current medicines and overall health before making a prescribing decision.

Wegovy® Pill May Be Suitable If You:

  • Meet the approved prescribing criteria.
  • Are looking for a needle-free prescription treatment option.
  • Are prepared to combine treatment with healthier eating habits and increased physical activity.
  • Understand the importance of taking the medicine as prescribed.
  • Are willing to attend follow-up reviews if required.

Every patient is assessed individually, and treatment decisions are made on a case-by-case basis.

Wegovy® Pill May Not Be Suitable If You:

Depending on your individual circumstances, Wegovy Pill may not be appropriate if you:

  • Are pregnant.
  • Are planning to become pregnant.
  • Are breastfeeding.
  • Have certain medical conditions where treatment is not recommended.
  • Have experienced an allergic reaction to semaglutide or any ingredient in the medicine.
  • Are taking the oral contraceptive pill and have not discussed this with your prescriber.
  • Have other clinical factors that require an alternative treatment approach.

For Wegovy Pill warnings, review the patient information leaflet and follow your prescriber's advice.

If there is any uncertainty about whether Wegovy Pill is suitable, your healthcare professional will discuss the available options with you.

Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Wegovy Pill can cause side effects, although not everybody experiences them.

Many side effects are mild or moderate and may improve as your body adjusts to treatment. However, some side effects can be more serious and require prompt medical attention.

Common Side Effects

The most commonly reported side effects involve the digestive system, and these are the common Wegovy Pill side effects most people are told to watch for.

These may include:

  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Diarrhoea.
  • Constipation.
  • Stomach discomfort.
  • Indigestion.
  • Reduced appetite.
  • Bloating.

These symptoms are often more noticeable during the first few weeks of treatment or after a dose increase. Wegovy Pill side effects can last from a few days to several weeks, especially while your body adjusts.

Eating smaller meals, avoiding large high-fat meals and maintaining adequate hydration may help some people manage mild digestive symptoms. If symptoms persist, worsen or become difficult to manage, you should contact your healthcare professional.

Less Common Side Effects

Some people may also experience:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness, sometimes linked to low blood pressure, particularly when sitting or standing up.
  • Fatigue.
  • Headache.
  • Burping.
  • Heartburn.
  • Changes in bowel habits.

Your experience may differ from someone else's, and not everyone will develop side effects.

Serious Side Effects

Although uncommon, serious side effects can occur.

You should seek urgent medical attention if you develop symptoms that could indicate a serious allergic reaction, stomach pain, severe stomach pain, or any other symptoms that cause significant concern and may require urgent assessment.

People with diabetes should also be alert for symptoms of low blood sugar and follow their clinician's advice if this occurs.

Difficulty urinating, changes in urine colour, or severe abdominal pain could suggest kidney or bladder stones and need urgent medical review.

You should also read the patient information leaflet supplied with your medicine, which explains recognised side effects and when urgent medical advice should be sought, and seek medical advice urgently if symptoms are severe, persistent, or otherwise concerning.

Reporting Side Effects

If you think you have experienced a side effect, speak with your healthcare professional or pharmacist.

Reporting suspected side effects helps improve ongoing medicine safety monitoring and contributes to a better understanding of how medicines are used in everyday clinical practice.

Who Can Benefit?

Wegovy® Pill has been developed for adults who meet the licensed prescribing criteria for weight management and who have been assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.

Living with overweight or obesity can affect many aspects of health and wellbeing. For some people, maintaining weight loss through lifestyle changes alone may be difficult because appetite, hunger and fullness are influenced by complex biological processes as well as daily habits.

When prescribed appropriately, Wegovy Pill may provide additional support for eligible adults who are working towards long-term weight management alongside healthier eating and increased physical activity.

Following an individual clinical assessment, Wegovy Pill may be considered for adults who:

  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or above, or a BMI between 27 kg/m² and 30 kg/m² together with at least one weight-related health condition, such as type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure.
  • Have discussed suitable treatment options with a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Are committed to making sustainable lifestyle changes alongside treatment.
  • Prefer a daily tablet rather than a weekly injection.
  • Understand the importance of taking the medicine exactly as prescribed.

Every prescribing decision is made individually. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not automatically mean that Wegovy Pill will be suitable or prescribed.

Potential Health Benefits

When used as part of a comprehensive weight management programme, Wegovy Pill may help some eligible adults work towards their weight management goals.

The benefits experienced differ from person to person and depend on factors including adherence to treatment, lifestyle changes, existing medical conditions and individual response to the medicine.

Supporting Weight Management

Clinical studies have shown that semaglutide may help some eligible adults lose weight when combined with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Individual outcomes vary, and there is no guarantee of a particular amount of weight loss.

Helping to Reduce Appetite

Semaglutide works by acting on GLP-1 receptors involved in appetite regulation.

Some people report feeling fuller after eating and less hungry between meals, which may help them maintain healthier eating habits over time. In some people, its effects on appetite and digestion may also help support steadier blood sugar and reduce blood sugar spikes by limiting sudden blood sugar spikes.

Supporting Healthy Lifestyle Changes

For some individuals, reduced hunger may make it easier to establish healthier routines, including balanced meals, portion awareness and regular physical activity.

These lifestyle changes remain an important part of successful long-term weight management, whether treatment continues or not.

Supporting Broader Health Goals

Achieving and maintaining a healthier weight may contribute to improvements in overall health for some people. However, the extent of any benefit depends on many factors, including your existing health conditions, lifestyle and ongoing medical care.

Your healthcare professional will discuss realistic expectations and review your progress throughout treatment.

Questions, answered.

How do I get the Wegovy Pill?

Start with your free 2-minute consultation. A GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reviews your health, history and goals the same day, and the Wegovy Pill is prescribed only if it's clinically appropriate for you. If it's not, you're refunded in full, automatically.

How do I take the Wegovy Pill?

One tablet, once a day, swallowed whole on an empty stomach with a sip of water, at least 30 minutes before your first food, drink or other medicines. It fits into a morning routine easily, and our team is available 7 days a week if you're unsure about anything.

What dose will I start on?

Everyone starts on the lowest dose, 1.5mg once daily, which lets your body adjust. Your prescriber then reviews how you're getting on and leads any dose increases step by step. You never decide dose changes alone.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. They're usually mild and settle as your body adjusts, which is why dose increases are gradual. Your prescriber will talk through what to expect, and the full list is in the patient information leaflet. If anything concerns you, our clinical team is a message away, 7 days a week.

How quickly will I receive it?

Complete your consultation and order before 12pm. If approved, your treatment is dispatched the same day and delivered free the next working day, tracked with DPD in plain packaging. That's the nume Promise.

Is the pill as effective as the injection?

Both contain semaglutide and both are clinically proven for weight management. Results vary by dose and by person, and the right choice depends on your health, your preferences and your prescriber's assessment. If you'd prefer to avoid needles, the pill is a genuine alternative, and your prescriber will help you decide.
