Semaglutide is a peptide: here's what that means in practice

Semaglutide belongs to a class of medicines built from peptides, short chains of amino acids that the body recognises and responds to. Specifically, it is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: a synthetic version of glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone released from the gut after eating.
