What Happens When You Try to Buy Wegovy Online in the UK

Wegovy is a Prescription-Only Medicine in the UK — a prescriber must assess your suitability before it can be dispensed legally, online or otherwise.
The MHRA has warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold online; fake products have caused hospitalisations, and around 20 million doses of illegally traded medicines (worth approximately £45 million) were seized in 2025 alone.
Any legitimate online pharmacy offering Wegovy can be verified in under a minute on the GPhC register before you hand over any personal or payment details.
Wegovy's standard titration starts at 0.25mg and progresses, at your prescriber's direction, to a 2.4mg maintenance dose (or up to the newly approved 7.2mg) meaning ongoing clinical oversight is part of the treatment, not a formality.

If you want to buy Wegovy online in the UK, the legal route runs through a prescription — there is no other way, and that is by design. Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg and above) is a Prescription-Only Medicine under UK law, which means any legitimate online pharmacy must complete a clinical assessment before supplying it. That assessment exists to protect you: a real prescriber checks your BMI, health history and any medicines you already take before anything is dispensed. Skipping that step is not a shortcut; it is a red flag worth taking seriously.

How a legitimate online Wegovy prescription actually works, step by step

Step 1, Check the pharmacy before you check the price

Before filling in any form, open the GPhC pharmacy register in a new tab. Every UK pharmacy dispensing Prescription-Only Medicines must be registered there. It takes about forty seconds: type the pharmacy's name or registration number and confirm the status shows as active. If a seller cannot be found on the register, close the tab and walk away. The GPhC register is the single most reliable check you can do before anything else, and it costs nothing.

A pharmacy that cannot be verified this way is one of the clearest red flags in online prescribing. Others include listings that offer Wegovy without asking for a consultation, prices that sit significantly below anything a licensed UK supplier could sustainably charge, and sellers operating through social media rather than a regulated website. The MHRA has warned explicitly about fake pens circulating in the UK; some have contained insulin rather than semaglutide, which is a serious safety risk. Report anything suspicious through the Yellow Card scheme.

You can read more about the rules around selling Wegovy online and what separates a regulated pharmacy from an illegal operation if you want the fuller picture on that side of things.

Step 2, Complete a clinical consultation

A legitimate online consultation for Wegovy is a genuine medical assessment, not a form you fill in to unlock a cart. The prescriber reviews your BMI, your current medications, your medical history and any conditions that might affect suitability. At a regulated pharmacy like nume, that review is done personally by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber on the same day you submit your answers, a real clinician reads your case, not a piece of software.

During this step, identity and weight are verified. Semaglutide's licensed indication covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol or type 2 diabetes. Lower thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK guidance. BMI alone is never the whole picture; the prescriber weighs everything up. The NHS's own patient information for semaglutide sets out the relevant safety considerations in full.

If you are coming from another provider already taking Wegovy, a reputable pharmacy will ask for evidence of your current dose rather than simply picking up where another prescription left off. That is good practice, not bureaucracy.

Step 3, Understand what comes with a legitimate supply

Once a prescriber approves your prescription, the treatment should arrive through a temperature-controlled logistics chain, tracked, and in plain packaging that does not advertise its contents. At nume, orders placed before midday on a working day are dispatched the same day for free next-working-day delivery by DPD. Your pen stays in a refrigerator from warehouse to your door, Wegovy requires storage at 2–8°C, and a pharmacy that does not mention cold-chain handling at all is worth questioning.

Ongoing supply also means ongoing clinical review. Wegovy is titrated gradually: the journey from 0.25mg up through 0.5mg, 1.0mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg (or, since April 2026, as far as the newly approved 7.2mg pen for eligible patients) is not a set-and-forget process. Each repeat order at a regulated pharmacy should trigger a fresh clinical check rather than an automatic refill. That review is where side effects get flagged, dose changes get considered, and progress gets assessed. You can find a clear overview of how semaglutide works as a treatment if the mechanism is something you want to understand before you start.

What the NHS route looks like by comparison

Some people searching for Wegovy online are hoping to access it through the NHS rather than privately. NICE recommends semaglutide under guideline TA875, but only within specialist weight management services and for a maximum of two years, with strict eligibility criteria and, in practice, considerable waiting times in most areas. NHS supply is not something that can be arranged through an online pharmacy directly.

The private route (through a regulated service like our Wegovy programme) exists for people who do not meet current NHS criteria, or who do not want to wait. There is no referral needed and no waiting list, subject to clinical suitability assessed at consultation. For a broader look at what private weight-loss treatment involves, including the consultation process and what is included in the price, that page covers the main questions.

One further practical note: the cost of private Wegovy varies between providers and rises with dose. Since Eli Lilly raised list prices in September 2025, the market range for Mounjaro has shifted significantly, and Wegovy pricing has followed similar pressure. If you want to understand the ordering process itself, our Wegovy shop online page walks through what to expect from start to finish. A page covering what buying Wegovy involves goes into that context in more detail. What the price should always include, though, is a clinical consultation, a prescription fee, and some form of aftercare, if those are absent, the headline figure is incomplete.

It is also worth knowing that certain supplements can interact with how semaglutide works, and our guide to turmeric and Wegovy is a useful read if you take turmeric or curcumin supplements regularly.

When you feel ready to go through the process properly, speak to our prescribers through a free consultation and we will assess whether Wegovy is clinically appropriate for you.
