Start journey Learn moreSemaglutide tablets for weight management became available online in the UK following MHRA approval in June 2026. The only legal route to buy semaglutide tablets online is through a prescription issued after a clinical assessment — a pharmacist or prescriber reviews your health history before any medicine is dispensed. These are Prescription-Only Medicines; no legitimate service will supply them without one. If you're reading this wondering whether there's a straightforward, regulated way to access treatment without a long NHS wait, there is — and the process is more straightforward than many people expect.

The MHRA approved Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide co-formulated with an absorption enhancer) on 11 June 2026, making the UK the first country in Europe to license an oral GLP-1 medicine for weight management. The phase 3 OASIS 4 trial, which underpins that approval, found an average weight reduction of around 13.6% over 64 weeks compared with roughly 2.4% on placebo, among adults with obesity or overweight alongside at least one weight-related condition. Among participants who stayed fully adherent to treatment throughout, average loss reached approximately 16.6%. Those figures are meaningful. They are also trial results from a controlled setting, which is why the medicine is prescription-only: a prescriber assesses whether the evidence translates to your specific health picture before any supply can happen.
Being prescription-only does not mean access is slow or complicated. It means that when you buy semaglutide tablets online, a qualified clinician must review your consultation, and at a well-run pharmacy that review happens the same day. You can read more about the Wegovy tablet formulation and how it works if you want the fuller clinical background before starting a consultation.
Buying semaglutide tablets online through a GPhC-registered pharmacy follows a consistent sequence. First, you complete a structured health questionnaire covering your BMI, relevant medical history, current medicines and weight-related conditions. At nume, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reads every response personally. There is no algorithm making the clinical call.
If treatment is clinically suitable, a prescription is issued and your order is prepared by our own GPhC-registered pharmacy (premises registration 9012878, verifiable on the GPhC register). Orders placed before 12pm on a working day are dispatched the same day; DPD delivers to your door the next working day. The packaging is plain and unbranded. Before your first dose increase, a prescriber re-reviews your progress, every repeat prescription gets the same clinical look, not a rubber stamp. If you want to understand what to look for when choosing an online pharmacy for semaglutide tablets, we've covered that in detail separately.
One practical note on taking the tablets: oral semaglutide is absorbed best first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, with a small amount of plain water. You wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking coffee, or taking other oral medicines. No refrigeration needed, the tablets are room-temperature stable, which many patients find more convenient than injections. Specific timing and any adjustments are always confirmed by your prescriber and the Patient Information Leaflet.
The MHRA has warned publicly (and repeatedly) about counterfeit weight-loss medicines being sold online and through social media, with fake pens found to contain insulin in some cases. Enforcement operations through 2025 seized approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines with an estimated street value of around £45 million, including the first illicit UK manufacturing site producing counterfeit tirzepatide pens. The pattern with fake sellers is recognisable: medicines offered without a prescription, prices far below the market, or discount codes from unverified accounts. You can report suspect sellers directly through the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme.
Before purchasing from any online pharmacy, check it on the GPhC register at pharmacyregulation.org/registers. Registered pharmacies are the only legal route to a dispensed Prescription-Only Medicine in the UK. If a site is not on the register, do not use it. This applies whether you are looking to buy Wegovy tablets online or any other prescription treatment.
Wegovy tablets are licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 29.9 alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea or osteoarthritis. Lower BMI thresholds of 2.5 kg/m² apply for South Asian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds under UK guidance. BMI alone does not determine approval; the prescriber reviews the complete picture, including current medicines and any conditions that might affect suitability.
The tablets are not licensed for people under 18, and they are not recommended during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or when actively trying to conceive. Certain medical histories, including a history of pancreatitis or medullary thyroid carcinoma, require careful prescriber discussion before any GLP-1 medicine is considered appropriate.
If you are currently on NHS semaglutide treatment or transferring from another provider, it is worth reading about how NHS access to semaglutide tablets works alongside the private route. For those who do not yet meet the NHS criteria or would prefer not to wait, you can buy a semaglutide tablet through a private consultation at a regulated pharmacy like nume, which offers a same-day clinical pathway. Our clinical team is available to answer questions through our support line seven days a week. When you are ready, check your eligibility and start your free consultation.
