Wegovy comes with a needle already integrated into the pre-filled pen — so when people search to buy Wegovy needles, they are usually asking the bigger question: how do you get Wegovy at all? In the UK, Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine, meaning no pharmacy can supply it without a valid prescription from a registered clinician. The only legal route starts with a clinical assessment, not a checkout. If you are looking for replacement or spare needles for your pen, we have a separate guide on buying Wegovy needles separately, but if you are at the beginning and wondering how to access treatment, read on.

Getting Wegovy in the UK: the clinical route, step by step, and how to stay safe

Does Wegovy come with needles, or do you buy them separately?

This is a question our prescribers hear most weeks, and it is worth clearing up at the start. Each Wegovy pre-filled pen has a needle mechanism built into the device itself, you do not source needles alongside your prescription the way you might with some other injectable medicines. When the pen is used, the needle retracts automatically. So in most cases, if you are on Wegovy and everything is working as intended, there is nothing extra to buy.

Where the question gets more practical is if a needle tip is damaged, a pen is dropped, or you want to understand exactly how the device works before your first dose. For that kind of detail, the specifics of needles for the Wegovy pen are covered in a dedicated page. If your pen itself appears faulty or you are unsure about technique, the right step is to contact your prescriber rather than improvise.

What most people searching here actually need is straightforward: a safe, clinically supervised prescription for Wegovy and a pharmacy they can trust to supply genuine stock. That is what the rest of this page covers.

What is the only legal way to get Wegovy in the UK?

Wegovy is classified as a prescription-only medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, and you can read more about why Wegovy needs a prescription before any pharmacy can dispense it. There is no lawful shortcut, regardless of how a listing is worded online.

The NHS supplies Wegovy through specialist weight management services, under NICE technology appraisal TA875, but waiting lists can be long and eligibility criteria are strict. For many people, a regulated private pharmacy is the practical alternative, provided you use one that is properly registered.

Any seller offering semaglutide without first conducting a clinical assessment is operating outside the law. The MHRA has seized fake weight-loss pens on a significant scale, including an October 2025 raid on a counterfeit tirzepatide manufacturing site, and has published clear warnings about illegal online sellers, see the MHRA's Yellow Card site to report any suspect supply. Pens from unverified sources have in some cases contained the wrong substances entirely.

Before using any online pharmacy, check it on the GPhC pharmacy register. A legitimate registered pharmacy will have a GPhC premises number you can look up. nume's registration number is 9012878, verifiable directly at pharmacyregulation.org. Red flags include sellers who supply without a clinical assessment, prices far below market rate, and discount codes attached to prescription medicines.

Who is Wegovy licensed for, and what does the assessment look at?

Under its UK licence, Wegovy is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above where at least one weight-related health condition is present, for example, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. You can read more about the full picture on the Wegovy treatment overview.

Eligibility on paper is a starting point, not a guarantee of approval. A prescriber looks at the complete clinical picture: your medical history, current medicines, any contraindications, and whether treatment is appropriate for you specifically. Wegovy is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you are trying to conceive, and it is not licensed for under-18s. People with a history of certain thyroid or pancreatic conditions, or certain gastrointestinal disorders, will need particular care in the assessment.

If you have already been on Wegovy elsewhere and are looking to continue, a prescriber can review your current dose and treatment history. There is more on continuing treatment and what evidence a transfer patient needs to provide.

How does the process work at nume?

The consultation is free. You fill in a clinical questionnaire online; a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber at our pharmacy reads your answers and makes an individual clinical decision. We also verify your identity and confirm your weight on video before any prescription is written. That step matters: it is part of what separates a regulated clinical service from a form that nobody checks.

If your prescription is approved and you want to buy Wegovy through a regulated pharmacy, orders placed before 12pm on a working day leave our pharmacy the same day via DPD tracked delivery, arriving the next working day in plain packaging. Every repeat order goes through the same clinical review process, no auto-renewals, no skipped steps. Our clinical team, including our lead prescriber, is available for aftercare questions seven days a week.

To understand whether you are likely to be eligible before you start, the weight-loss treatment overview sets out the licensed criteria clearly. When you are ready, the consultation itself starts at our treatments page. There are no fees beyond the treatment itself, consultation, prescription, delivery and aftercare are all included.
