Start journey Learn morePrivate semaglutide in the UK is priced per pen or per month, and that price varies considerably between providers and doses. Since Eli Lilly's September 2025 list-price increase pushed the market upward, typical private costs for weight-loss injections range roughly £149–£375 a month depending on the medicine and the dose — figures reported widely at the time. What those numbers include, though, differs enormously from one seller to the next. Semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine: under UK law, no one may legally supply it without a valid prescription following a clinical assessment, so the real question isn't only what the cheapest semaglutide price is — it's what any given price actually gets you.

NICE recommended semaglutide (Wegovy) for weight management in its technology appraisal TA875, citing average weight loss of around 15% over 68 weeks in the pivotal STEP 1 trial. That trial enrolled adults with obesity or overweight alongside a weight-related condition, all of them following a reduced-calorie diet and activity plan alongside treatment. The results are meaningful, but they also carry an important caveat: they came from a closely supervised clinical programme, not from buying a pen and hoping for the best.
The MHRA-approved dosing schedule for Wegovy starts at 0.25mg and titrates upward in roughly four-weekly steps, reaching the 2.4mg maintenance dose under prescriber guidance. A higher 7.2mg dose was subsequently approved by the MHRA, with the dedicated single-dose pen cleared on 14 April 2026 for adults with a BMI of 30 or above. Starting at the right point and moving up at the right pace matters, it's the clinical oversight that sits behind those trial numbers, not just the medicine itself.
The NHS page on semaglutide summarises the common side effects and how to take it safely. Any headline semaglutide price that doesn't include access to that kind of clinical guidance is already a less complete product than it appears.
Headline prices for private weight-loss treatment are often just the cost of the pen. A separate consultation fee is common. So is a prescription charge, a delivery fee, and (less visibly) the absence of any structured aftercare when things get complicated. A dose increase, a side effect question on a Saturday, a request for a clinical re-review before the next order: these are precisely the moments where adequate support matters, and they're what bargain pricing tends not to budget for.
There's also the question of the supply chain. Semaglutide is a prescription medicine sourced through the licensed UK pharmaceutical route; the MHRA has warned repeatedly about counterfeit weight-loss pens circulating online and via social media, some of which have been found to contain entirely different substances. You can verify whether any online pharmacy is GPhC-registered at the GPhC register, it takes about thirty seconds. If a seller isn't on it, the price is irrelevant.
For a fuller look at how private costs compare across doses and providers, our semaglutide price UK guide breaks it down in more detail.
We're not going to claim the cheapest semaglutide price. Genuinely: that's not the race we entered. One transparent monthly cost covers the consultation, the prescription review, treatment, and free next-working-day DPD delivery, no extras surfacing at checkout. There's no subscription model and no auto-renewal; every repeat order is reviewed individually by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber before anything is dispensed. Our clinical team and the prescribers who review consultations are named, qualified professionals.
The current treatment pricing (including what's included at each step) is set out clearly on our weight-loss treatments page. If you're doing your research around payday or planning ahead before a bank holiday, that page will give you the full picture without any surprises.
If you'd like to understand more about the options available, our Wegovy overview covers the full licensed picture. For those specifically weighing up cost-to-value, our Wegovy cost guide looks at what drives the price differences in practice.
A prescription-only medicine requires a prescriber who has assessed your health, your current medicines, and your suitability for treatment. That assessment isn't a formality, it's what makes the supply legal and what keeps you safe. The MHRA has been unambiguous: these medicines should not be assessed for quick or cosmetic weight loss, and they should come through regulated, verified routes.
Pricing that undercuts the market to a striking degree tends to signal something missing: the clinical review, the registered pharmacy status, or the genuine licensed supply chain. If you've been searching for cheap semaglutide, it's worth understanding what that kind of pricing usually leaves out before you commit to any provider. The MHRA's Yellow Card scheme lets you report suspected counterfeit or substandard medicines, and suspect sellers. It's worth knowing that route exists.
A small saving on a single pen is not the measure that keeps you well. Questions about generic semaglutide cost come up often, and our guide addresses what those options actually mean in a UK regulatory context. For context on what genuinely low-cost options do and don't exist in the UK, see our guide to the cheapest way to get semaglutide, which addresses that question head-on. If you're comparing providers and want to know more about the cheapest place for semaglutide in the UK, that guide sets out what to look for and what to be cautious about. The right metric for a prescription weight-loss medicine is: regulated pharmacy, clinical assessment, genuine supply chain, and support when you need it.
