Why did Mounjaro's price go up, and by how much?

Eli Lilly announced a list-price increase for Mounjaro in the UK, effective 1 September 2025. The change was most dramatic at higher doses: the highest-strength pen moved from a list price of around £122 to roughly £330, a figure widely reported across UK health and consumer press at the time. Lower doses saw smaller increases, which is why the 5mg pen sits at a different price point to what you pay as your prescriber titrates your dose upward through treatment.

Private providers set their own prices on top of that list cost, so what you see quoted on a pharmacy website reflects both Lilly's wholesale price and whatever margin, overhead and service infrastructure the provider has built in. One thing worth knowing: Mounjaro, the brand name for tirzepatide, is a Black Triangle medicine, meaning it carries additional MHRA monitoring requirements. Eli Lilly is an authorised UK supplier; treatment dispensed through the licensed UK supply chain is subject to that scrutiny. It's one of the structural costs embedded in a legitimate private prescription.

What do headline prices typically leave out?

A price quoted in bold on a website often covers the medicine itself and little else. Consultation fees, prescription charges, delivery costs and aftercare can all be billed separately, and with some providers, they are.
