From a practical standpoint, once a week is also easier to stick to. Pick a day (Thursday, say) and it becomes a habit quickly. Some people link it to a weekly routine: the same morning they put a wash on, or before they leave for the gym. What does the full titration schedule look like?

The standard pathway runs across approximately 16 to 20 weeks before you reach 2.4 mg. Does the 7.2 mg dose change the weekly frequency?

No. Even at the higher 7.2 mg level, Wegovy remains a once-weekly injection. The frequency never changes, only the amount per injection increases. The MHRA approved 7.2 mg in January 2026, initially administered as three 2.4 mg pens in a single week. On 14 April 2026 a dedicated single-dose 7.2 mg pen was approved, making the process identical to the standard pathway: one injection, once a week. The single-dose pen was designed specifically for BMI ≥30 and is not indicated below that threshold.

Trial data for the 7.2 mg dose reported average weight loss of around 20.7% over 72 weeks, a result that narrows the gap with tirzepatide's highest-dose figures. What if you miss a dose or want to change your injection day?

Life happens. If your usual injection day passes and you remember within five days, take the dose as soon as you can, then return to your normal schedule. If it has been more than five days since the missed dose, skip it and pick up where you would have been the following week. Do not take two doses close together to compensate. Switching your weekly day is straightforward provided the gap between doses stays at least four days. So if you normally inject on Mondays but want to move to Thursdays, you can do that in a single adjustment, as long as Monday to Thursday is at least four days apart, which it is.
