Start journey Learn moreTo get a Mounjaro prescription for weight loss in the UK, you need a clinical assessment carried out by a registered prescriber — there is no other legal route. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a Prescription-Only Medicine, so a qualified clinician must review your health, confirm you meet the licensed criteria, and issue a prescription before any pharmacy can dispense it. At nume, that assessment is done the same day by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber, not a piece of software. If approved, your treatment is dispatched the same day and delivered free to your door the next working day. Every step is covered below.

Mounjaro is a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. That single fact shapes everything. A pharmacy cannot hand it over the counter, an app cannot issue a prescription automatically, and a website cannot sell it to you without a valid prescription from a registered prescriber. Anyone offering tirzepatide without that process in place is operating outside the law. The NHS page on tirzepatide sets out clearly why clinical assessment matters, it is not a formality but a genuine safety check for contraindications, current medicines, and whether the benefits outweigh the risks for you specifically.
The two legitimate routes are NHS prescription (via your GP or a specialist weight management service) and private prescription through a regulated online pharmacy or clinic. Both require a clinical assessment. Neither route is a shortcut. The difference is mainly speed and eligibility: NHS criteria are phased and quite strict right now, whereas a private route (provided the pharmacy is properly registered) follows the licensed eligibility criteria in the medicine's authorisation. You can read more about whether Mounjaro can be prescribed for weight loss and what the licensed criteria involve.
In the UK, Mounjaro for weight loss can be prescribed by a doctor (including a GP with the appropriate contract), a nurse independent prescriber, or a pharmacist independent prescriber. The prescriber must assess you against the licensed criteria: adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK guidance. BMI alone does not guarantee a prescription, the full clinical picture decides.
On the NHS, access to tirzepatide is rolling out in phases; many people do not yet meet the current criteria or face a long wait. A full breakdown of NHS Mounjaro access covers the current eligibility thresholds and phased rollout. If you would rather not wait, or do not meet NHS thresholds, a private prescription through a GPhC-registered online pharmacy is the other route. Our clinical team at nume includes GPhC-registered Independent Prescribers who review every consultation personally.
Whichever route you take, the prescriber should verify your identity, confirm your weight, check your medical history, and ask about your current medicines. At nume we do this through photo-ID verification, live weight confirmation on video, and a Summary Care Record check where appropriate. A GP is notified in line with GPhC guidance. Your GP can also prescribe Mounjaro if your practice has joined the new 2026/27 GP contract and you meet the criteria, though participation varies by area.
Every legitimate online pharmacy operating in the UK must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Checking this takes about thirty seconds. Visit the GPhC's public register and search by name or registration number. For reference, our GPhC premises registration is 9012878, you can verify it directly at pharmacyregulation.org. If a pharmacy cannot be found there, do not use it.
The MHRA has issued repeated warnings about counterfeit weight-loss pens being sold online and via social media. In October 2025, enforcement teams raided the first illicit UK site manufacturing fake tirzepatide pens. Fake pens have previously been found to contain insulin, with serious consequences for the people who used them. The red flags are consistent: sellers offering Mounjaro without a prescription, prices far below the market rate, social-media DMs, and so-called discount codes. If you are wondering whether you can order Mounjaro from different pharmacies, that page also explains what to watch for when switching providers safely. If you spot a suspect seller, you can report them through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. More on how to buy Mounjaro safely online is worth reading before you commit anywhere.
Start the free consultation on our treatment page. You answer a set of clinical questions (medical history, current medicines, relevant conditions) and upload photo ID. A GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reads your responses the same day. Not a triage bot. Not an algorithm that flags and queues. A named clinician, working through your case.
If you are clinically suitable and order before 12pm on a working day, your prescription is issued and your treatment is dispatched the same afternoon. There is something straightforwardly reassuring about knowing it leaves our pharmacy before the school run. DPD delivers it the next working day in plain, unbranded packaging, tracked on your phone. Every repeat order goes through the same clinical re-review before anything is sent. There are no subscriptions and no automatic renewals. We also offer priority aftercare seven days a week if questions come up once you start. You can find out more about Mounjaro at nume (sorry, at Mounjaro at nume) or explore our full range of weight-loss treatments if you want to compare your options first.
