Start journey Learn moreWegovy is available in the UK, but only on prescription after a clinical assessment — that's not small print, it's the law. As a Prescription-Only Medicine, semaglutide cannot legally be dispensed without a prescriber deciding it's right for you. The good news: you don't need a GP referral or a waiting list to get that assessment done. A regulated online pharmacy with a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber can review your case the same day and, if you're clinically suitable, dispatch treatment by next working day. That's exactly what we do at nume.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults. Because it's a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, no pharmacy (online or on the high street) can hand it over without a valid prescription from a registered prescriber. That means anyone offering it without that step is operating outside the law, and the product itself may not be what it claims.
The legitimate route has two parts: a clinical consultation, then dispensing by a pharmacy you can verify. For private patients, that consultation happens through a regulated online service or a specialist clinic. There's no requirement to go through your NHS GP first, though it's good practice for your prescriber to notify them, and ours do, in line with NHS England guidance on weight-management injections.
At nume, the consultation is free. You complete a clinical questionnaire, verify your identity with photo ID, and confirm your weight on a brief video call. A prescriber then reviews everything personally. If Wegovy is suitable for you, your prescription is issued and your order dispatched. You can read more about how Wegovy works before you start if you'd like the full picture first.
This matters more than most people realise. The MHRA has repeatedly warned the public about fake weight-loss pens sold through social media and unverified websites, counterfeit pens have been found containing insulin instead of semaglutide, and in 2025 around 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines (with a street value of roughly £45 million) were seized. One illicit site manufacturing fake tirzepatide pens was raided in Northampton that same year.
The single most reliable check: look up any online pharmacy on the GPhC register before you hand over payment or personal details. Every legally operating UK online pharmacy must be registered there. nume's own GPhC premises registration number is 9012878, you can verify it directly at pharmacyregulation.org.
Red flags to walk away from: sellers who offer these medicines without a clinical assessment, prices dramatically lower than the private market, and anyone pushing "discount codes" for a Prescription-Only Medicine. If something feels off, report it at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk, the MHRA acts on these reports.
The licensed eligibility criteria for Wegovy in the UK cover adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related health condition, things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, or obstructive sleep apnoea. For some ethnic backgrounds, UK guidance sets the thresholds 2.5 kg/m² lower; our prescribers apply this when it's relevant. The NICE appraisal of semaglutide for weight management (TA875) outlines the full clinical picture for NHS commissioning, though private eligibility follows the medicine's licensed criteria.
BMI alone doesn't decide the outcome. A prescriber looks at your full health history, existing conditions, current medications, anything in your past that might affect whether Wegovy is safe or suitable for you. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive means Wegovy isn't recommended. It's also not licensed for under-18s.
If you're already on treatment elsewhere and want to transfer, switching to a regulated service is straightforward, our prescribers review your current dose and supporting evidence before issuing a prescription, which is worth knowing if you've had gaps in clinical oversight and are looking to start or continue on the 0.5 mg dose with a provider you can trust.
Start your free consultation on the weight-loss treatments page, it takes around ten minutes. You'll answer questions about your health, weight history and current medications. Identity and weight are then verified, because a prescriber making a clinical decision needs to know they're assessing the right person at the right starting point. That's not bureaucracy; it's basic safety.
Once your answers reach our prescriber, they review them the same day. If Wegovy is appropriate for you, your prescription is issued and your order dispatched, if you've submitted before midday, that dispatch happens the same working day. DPD delivers it to your door the next working day, tracked, in plain packaging, and if you're based in the capital you can find out more about getting Wegovy delivered to a London address through our service. The whole thing fits around a normal day; plenty of patients submit in the morning and track their parcel before the school run is done.
After that, support doesn't stop. Our clinical team is available seven days a week, and every repeat order is reviewed before it's approved, no auto-renewals, no rubber-stamping. You can also explore the broader question of where to buy Wegovy in the UK if you'd like to compare your options before deciding, including how the process differs for those looking to buy Wegovy in New Zealand. Our clinical team page has more on who reviews your case.
