Is Semaglutide a Controlled Drug in the UK?

The misconception: 'controlled drug' and 'prescription-only' are the same thing

Ozempic, Rybelsus and the licences that matter

Semaglutide appears under three UK brand names, and the licensing is not the same across all three. Wegovy injection and the Wegovy tablet are both licensed for weight management. Ozempic injection is licensed for type 2 diabetes. Rybelsus tablets are licensed for type 2 diabetes at lower doses (3 mg, 7 mg, 14 mg), entirely different from the Wegovy tablet titration schedule, which runs from 1.5 mg up to a 25 mg maintenance dose.
