Medvi Semaglutide: what is it, and how does it compare to UK-licensed options?

Medvi is a US telehealth provider — it does not operate in the UK and its compounded semaglutide products are not MHRA-licensed here.
The only semaglutide medicine licensed for weight management in the UK is Wegovy (2.4mg injection; and, from June 2026, the 25mg oral tablet), both made by Novo Nordisk.
Compounded semaglutide lacks the clinical trial evidence and regulatory oversight that applies to Wegovy; the MHRA has warned against obtaining GLP-1 medicines from unverified sources.
A legitimate UK semaglutide prescription requires clinical assessment by a GPhC-registered prescriber — no online seller can legally supply it without one.

Medvi is a US telehealth company that has offered compounded semaglutide to American patients. It is not a UK brand, and compounded semaglutide is not licensed for weight management in the United Kingdom. If you've searched for Medvi semaglutide and you're based in the UK, the licensed semaglutide medicine for weight loss here is Wegovy, a prescription-only treatment made by Novo Nordisk and dispensed only after a clinical assessment by a qualified prescriber. These are prescription-only medicines; a clinician decides whether they are appropriate for you.

Semaglutide in the UK: the licensed reality behind the Medvi search

What is Medvi, and why does it keep appearing in UK search results?

Medvi is a weight-loss telehealth platform that operated in the United States during the period when the FDA permitted compounding pharmacies to produce semaglutide, because of national supply shortages of Ozempic and Wegovy. Under those specific US rules, compounded versions of the drug were temporarily allowed. That permission has since been revoked in America as supplies normalised, and it has never applied in the UK.

UK search results surface Medvi because American weight-loss content travels. People see the name in forums, YouTube videos, or US news articles and wonder whether a British equivalent exists. It doesn't, not under that name, and not in that form. The MHRA licenses medicines for the UK market independently of the FDA; a product that a US compounding pharmacy may have supplied legally there carries no standing here.

If you've arrived at this page after seeing Medvi promoted on social media or through an overseas seller offering to ship to a UK address, that is worth treating with caution. The MHRA has seized large quantities of fake and illegally imported GLP-1 pens destined for UK customers. Reporting suspected sellers via the Yellow Card scheme helps regulators act quickly.

What semaglutide products are actually licensed in the UK for weight loss?

Two semaglutide medicines hold MHRA approval for weight management. The better-known one is the Wegovy injection: a once-weekly subcutaneous pen starting at 0.25mg and titrated upward, with 2.4mg as the standard maintenance dose and a newer 7.2mg option approved in early 2026 for adults with a BMI of 30 or above. In the STEP 1 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, participants on 2.4mg semaglutide lost around 15% of their body weight on average over 68 weeks alongside lifestyle changes.

The second option is newer still. In June 2026 the MHRA approved the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed for weight loss in the UK: Wegovy tablets, taken once daily and titrated through 1.5mg, 4mg and 9mg to a 25mg maintenance dose. In clinical trials, participants who stayed fully adherent lost around 17% of body weight over 64 weeks. No refrigeration is needed, which makes it convenient for travel. You can read more about how semaglutide works across both forms if you want the mechanism in plain detail.

Ozempic is also semaglutide, but it is licensed for type 2 diabetes management, not weight loss. Rybelsus tablets are the same story. Neither should be sought as a workaround for a Wegovy prescription.

Does the absence of something like Medvi in the UK mean fewer options, or just different ones?

Different ones, and arguably better-regulated. The appeal of compounded semaglutide in the US was primarily cost: branded Wegovy was expensive and often not covered by insurance, so compounded versions offered a cheaper route. The UK system works differently. Private prescriptions for licensed Wegovy are available through regulated online pharmacies, and where you buy Wegovy in the UK matters in terms of both safety and the clinical support around it.

NICE has also recommended tirzepatide (Mounjaro), a dual GIP and GLP-1 agonist, for NHS use in eligible adults, and both Wegovy and tirzepatide are available privately. The weight-loss treatment landscape in the UK covers more options than a single brand search might suggest. What it doesn't include is unlicensed compounded semaglutide, and for good reason. Compounded products bypass the manufacturing quality controls, clinical testing and post-market surveillance that licensed medicines carry.

One practical habit worth building: before ordering any prescription medicine online, spend 60 seconds checking the pharmacy on the GPhC register. A legitimate UK online pharmacy will have a registered premises number you can verify in seconds. If it isn't there, walk away.

What should UK patients searching for Medvi semaglutide do next?

Start with the licensed pathway. If you think semaglutide might suit you, the right first step is a clinical consultation with a GPhC-registered prescriber who can look at your full picture: your BMI, medical history, any medicines you already take, and whether an injection or the newer tablet might work better for your routine. Semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine and that consultation is non-negotiable, but it doesn't have to be slow or difficult. Our prescribers can discuss options including semaglutide manufactured by Bachem, a pharmaceutical-grade active ingredient used in licensed UK treatments.

Private routes through regulated UK pharmacies can move quickly. At nume, every consultation is read the same day by a named prescriber, not passed through an automated system. Our clinical team reviews suitability, confirms eligibility, and (if you order before 12pm on a working day and are clinically approved) dispatches treatment the same day for free next-working-day delivery. One transparent price covers the consultation, prescription and aftercare. No subscription, no auto-renewal.

If you have questions before you begin, our FAQ page covers the most common ones, including details about starting your first semaglutide dose and what to expect as you move through the semaglutide titration stages, or you can get in touch directly. When you're ready, speak to our prescribers and find out whether semaglutide is the right fit for you.
