How Mounjaro delivery works — and what to check before you order

But Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, which means a qualified prescriber must evaluate your health before any supply can legally happen. No clinical assessment, no prescription, no medicine, that sequence is not optional.

What that means in practice is simple enough. You complete a medical consultation, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, and if treatment is clinically suitable, the pharmacy dispenses and ships. The whole process, done through a regulated online pharmacy, can genuinely happen within hours. Slower routes (a GP referral, NHS waiting lists) exist too, and we'll come to those. How to check whether any online pharmacy is legitimate

The safest thing you can do before ordering Mounjaro from any online pharmacy is to look it up on the GPhC register. The General Pharmaceutical Council maintains a public register of all legally operating pharmacies in Great Britain, you can search by name, address or registration number at pharmacyregulation.org/registers. Every registered pharmacy displays the NHS logo and a GPhC registration number on its website; clicking that logo should take you directly to the pharmacy's listing.

Who is likely to be eligible, and the honest NHS picture

For a private prescription, Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds can apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. These are the licensed parameters, a prescriber assesses the whole picture, and meeting the numbers alone doesn't guarantee approval.

On the NHS, access to tirzepatide is being phased in under NICE technology appraisal TA1026. From June 2025, patients with a BMI of 40 or above and four or more of a defined set of conditions became eligible; a second cohort covering BMI 35–39.9 opened in June 2026. Waiting lists in specialist services are long in many areas, and GP practices can now prescribe under the 2026/27 contract, though participation varies.
