Mounjaro®

Start journey Learn moreMounjaro and Ozempic are not interchangeable for weight loss, and their costs reflect very different licensing realities. In the UK, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed for weight management; Ozempic (semaglutide) is licensed for type 2 diabetes and is not a weight-loss medicine. Any private price comparison between them needs that distinction at its centre. If weight loss is your goal, the relevant comparison is Mounjaro versus Wegovy, because Wegovy is the semaglutide product licensed for weight management in the UK. That context matters before any cost discussion makes sense. Both are prescription-only medicines, which means neither can be prescribed without a clinical assessment by a qualified prescriber, regardless of where you see them priced online.

People searching for the cost difference between Mounjaro and Ozempic are often trying to work out which is the cheaper route to weight loss. That's a reasonable place to start. But Ozempic is semaglutide prescribed for type 2 diabetes — the licensing distinction between tirzepatide and Ozempic is worth understanding before any cost comparison, because a prescriber in the UK cannot legitimately issue Ozempic for weight loss. The weight-loss version of semaglutide is Wegovy, which uses the same molecule at a higher dose and holds a separate UK marketing authorisation. Prescribing Ozempic off-label for weight management would not be standard practice through a regulated online pharmacy, and NICE guidance for semaglutide in obesity specifically references Wegovy, not Ozempic. So when people ask whether Ozempic is cheaper than Mounjaro for weight loss, the honest answer is that Ozempic is not the right comparison. That misconception is common, and worth setting aside gently, because it shapes every price conversation that follows.
The real decision, for someone considering weight-loss treatment, is between Mounjaro and Wegovy. You can read a more detailed breakdown of why Ozempic and Mounjaro aren't directly comparable on cost if you want to explore that further.
UK private weight-loss treatment is priced per four-week supply, and the figure varies by dose and by provider. Following a widely reported list-price increase by Eli Lilly, Mounjaro's UK list price rose substantially from 1 September 2025, the highest-dose pen's list price moved from around £122 to around £330 for a four-week supply, and typical private market prices since then have ranged roughly £149 to £375 per month depending on the dose and the service providing it. Wegovy sits in a broadly similar private price range. These are the only verified figures we quote.
What headline prices often leave out matters as much as the headline itself. A low per-pen price from an online listing may exclude the consultation fee, the prescription charge, delivery, and any clinical follow-up. Add those back and the real cost of a lower-quoted provider can match or exceed a service that quotes a single transparent figure. The question of which is cheaper between these treatments rarely has a clean answer once those components are counted. NICE's appraisal of tirzepatide (NICE TA1026) and NHS guidance on tirzepatide both confirm that this is a prescription medicine requiring clinical oversight, which means the consultation and ongoing review are not optional extras. They are part of what a safe service delivers.
At nume, the price you see covers the consultation, the prescription, the medicine, and delivery. That is deliberate. We are not the cheapest option on the market, and we did not set out to be. What a lower headline price often means in practice is that something clinical has been separated out, or that the supply chain is harder to verify. A question our prescribers hear regularly is whether it is possible to save money by using a cheaper listing elsewhere and consulting with us. The answer is no: the prescription and the supply have to come from the same regulated, accountable service for the clinical safeguards to function properly.
Every consultation at nume is reviewed personally by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber. Every repeat order is clinically re-reviewed before dispatch. Our pharmacy's GPhC registration can be verified directly at the GPhC register, premises number 9012878. Current treatment pricing is shown on our weight-loss treatments page, where you can also start a free consultation.
The MHRA has warned repeatedly about counterfeit weight-loss pens circulating through online and social-media sellers. Fake pens have been found to contain insulin rather than the labelled medicine, and the MHRA's enforcement operations through 2025 included raids on illicit manufacturing sites and seizures of roughly 20 million doses of illegally traded medicines, worth around £45 million. Suspect sellers can be reported through the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme. Sellers advertising these medicines at prices well below the verified private market range, or offering them without a clinical assessment, are a red flag.
The right measure for a prescription medicine is not the lowest price. It is whether the supply chain is licensed, whether a qualified prescriber has assessed your suitability, and whether clinical support is available if something changes. Those things cost something. If you want to understand how Mounjaro and Wegovy compare on clinical grounds as well as cost, the Wegovy vs Mounjaro overview covers the evidence in detail. And if cost across all the treatments is the main question, the full price comparison page sets out the broader context. The weight-loss treatments overview is a good place to start if you are still deciding which medicine to ask about.
