Start journey Learn moreSemaglutide for weight loss is only legally available in the UK through a prescription following a clinical assessment — a regulated prescriber must review your health picture before any medicine is supplied. Wegovy (the semaglutide brand licensed for weight loss) is a prescription-only medicine, so any clinic or online service offering it must operate within that framework. What most people searching for a semaglutide clinic don't realise is that the clinic doesn't have to be a physical building you travel to — a GPhC-registered online pharmacy staffed by Independent Prescribers counts as exactly that, without the waiting room.

This is the thing worth correcting first. A remarkable number of websites use the word 'clinic' to mean little more than a checkout page. That matters because semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine, the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 exist precisely to prevent it being supplied without proper clinical oversight. A real semaglutide clinic, whether it operates from a high street or a laptop, has a GPhC-registered pharmacy supplying the medicine and a prescriber who personally reviews your case. The GPhC maintains a public register of every legitimate UK pharmacy; you can search it at pharmacyregulation.org/registers and confirm a registration number before you hand over any personal or payment details.
The sites that should give you pause are the ones moving fast: no clinical questions, no identity check, no mention of a prescriber's name. In October 2025, MHRA enforcement teams raided the first UK site manufacturing counterfeit tirzepatide pens, and roughly 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines (around £45m street value) were seized during 2025 alone. Counterfeit pens have contained insulin. Price that's conspicuously far below the market, combined with no visible prescriber oversight, is a pattern worth taking seriously.
Our approach at nume is designed precisely to avoid that grey zone, GPhC-registered, every prescription issued by a named Independent Prescriber, and verifiable.
A question our prescribers hear most weeks is some version of: "Can I just get Ozempic instead? It's the same thing." It isn't quite the same thing, legally speaking. Ozempic is also semaglutide, but it's licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight management, the NHS semaglutide medicines page covers both uses and it's worth reading if you want the patient-level picture. Wegovy is the brand licensed specifically for weight loss, at the 2.4mg maintenance dose (and now, following MHRA approval in April 2026, a 7.2mg pen for eligible patients with obesity).
The licensed eligibility criteria are: adults, BMI 30 or above, or BMI 27 or above where at least one weight-related condition is present, for example high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK guidance. BMI alone doesn't decide the outcome; a prescriber reviews the full picture, including your medication history and any contraindications. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, planning to conceive, and being under 18 all sit outside the licensed indication.
If you want to understand what the clinical trial evidence showed, the semaglutide clinical trial data page goes through the STEP programme results in detail.
NICE recommends Wegovy (semaglutide) for weight loss only within a specialist weight management service and for a maximum of two years, the full criteria are set out in NICE technology appraisal TA875. In practice, NHS access means a referral to a tier 3 or tier 4 weight management service, a multidisciplinary team, and waiting lists that in many areas run to months or longer. That's not a criticism of the NHS; it's the clinical framework NICE built around this medicine.
Private semaglutide clinics (including regulated online services) exist outside that waiting list. There's no referral required and no NHS criteria to meet; the prescriber applies the licensed eligibility criteria directly and decides whether treatment is appropriate for you. The trade-off is cost: private treatment is self-funded. It's worth reading about what Wegovy costs privately in the UK before you start, so there are no surprises.
If you're based in a specific area and wondering about local options, the guide to semaglutide clinics near you covers how geography affects your choices, and why an online clinic registered with the GPhC often removes the postcode lottery entirely. If you're in Yorkshire and prefer a locally rooted service, our semaglutide clinic in Leeds explains how we serve patients across the city and surrounding areas.
The process at a properly regulated online clinic is straightforward. You complete a clinical consultation, questions about your health history, current medications, BMI and weight-related conditions. A GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reads your answers personally, the same day. If semaglutide is clinically appropriate, a prescription is issued and the medicine is dispensed from the pharmacy's licensed UK stock. At nume, orders placed before 12pm on a working day are dispatched the same day once approved, arriving free via DPD the following working day in plain, unbranded packaging.
What a legitimate service never does: approve everyone regardless of answers, skip identity verification, or dispense without a prescriber having reviewed the case. Those aren't bureaucratic niceties, they're the things that keep the supply chain genuine and the medicine safe for the person taking it.
The Wegovy clinic overview goes deeper on what the consultation covers and what happens at each stage of treatment, including how dose titration is managed and what aftercare looks like. You can also explore the full Wegovy treatment information if you want the clinical picture first. When you're ready to see whether you're eligible, check your eligibility with our prescribers, the consultation is free.
