Why 'over the counter' isn't an option, and what that protects you from

A common misconception is that oral medicines are somehow less regulated than injectables because they feel more familiar. Tablets, capsules, liquids, the route of administration has no bearing on whether a medicine is prescription-only. Who can legitimately be prescribed the semaglutide weight-loss tablet

The licensed criteria, set out in the MHRA approval, cover adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 29.9 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, or prediabetes. The tablet is not licensed for under-18s, and it is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you are trying to conceive.

One point worth knowing: Rybelsus is also an oral semaglutide tablet, but it carries different strengths (3mg, 7mg, and 14mg) and is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss.
