The myth: 3mg is a Wegovy dose you can request

A higher 7.2mg dose was approved by the MHRA on 14 April 2026, available initially through a dedicated single-dose pen for adults with a BMI of 30 or above. Nowhere in that sequence does 3mg appear. What the Wegovy Pill dose ladder actually looks like

Part of the 3mg confusion may stem from the arrival of the Wegovy Pill, the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed in the UK for weight management, approved by the MHRA on 11 June 2026. It uses semaglutide in a tablet form alongside an absorption enhancer called SNAC. Its dose schedule is 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg and 25mg, with at least a month at each level before moving up. Still no 3mg. The Wegovy Pill is swallowed whole first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, with a small amount of plain water, and you wait at least 30 minutes before any food, coffee or other oral medicines. Rybelsus follows similar timing rules, but the doses, titration steps and indication are different. One is for weight management; the other is for blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes. A prescriber reviewing your case would apply entirely different clinical criteria to each.

Phase 3 trial data (OASIS 4) reported an average weight loss of around 13.6% over 64 weeks with the Wegovy Pill, rising to roughly 17% among participants who stayed fully adherent, a figure that should be understood in the context of that specific group, not as a general average.
