Side effects to be aware of as doses increase through the 3ml pen range

The most common side effects of Wegovy are gastrointestinal: nausea, loose stools, constipation, reflux and burping are reported most often, especially in the first few weeks of a new dose step. They typically ease as your body adjusts. Starting at 0.25mg and stepping up slowly through the 3ml pen range is specifically designed to reduce how disruptive these effects are, the graduated approach is not cautious for caution's sake, it is evidence-based tolerability management.

More serious symptoms warrant prompt medical attention. Severe, persistent abdominal pain that radiates to the back, with or without vomiting, may indicate pancreatitis, and the MHRA highlighted this as a known but infrequent risk in a Drug Safety Update issued in January 2026. Gallbladder problems, allergic reactions and signs of dehydration following prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea should also prompt you to contact a healthcare professional promptly. Wegovy is licensed in the UK for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above if at least one weight-related health condition is present, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. A BMI figure alone is not a guarantee of approval: the prescriber considers your full medical history, current medicines and any contraindications before issuing a prescription.

Wegovy is not recommended during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or if you are trying to conceive. It is not licensed for under-18s.
