Start journey Learn moreThere is no 50mg dose of Wegovy. The highest strength approved in the UK is 7.2mg, reached after a gradual titration that starts at 0.25mg and works up over several months. If you have seen "Wegovy 50mg" mentioned online, it is almost certainly a labelling error, a counterfeit product, or content written about a different medicine entirely. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine licensed in the UK for weight management in adults, and its licensed dose range sits well below 50mg — understanding what the real schedule looks like matters, both for safety and for knowing what to expect from treatment.

It crops up most often in two places: social media posts that confuse milligrams with micrograms, and listings from unverified online sellers. Neither source is reliable for medical information. A handful of search queries also conflate Wegovy with Rybelsus, an oral semaglutide tablet licensed for type 2 diabetes, Rybelsus goes up to 14mg, still nowhere near 50mg, and it is not a weight-loss medicine under UK licensing.
Some posts appear to reference dosing units from clinical trial protocols or US-market products in ways that get garbled in translation. Whatever the origin, 50mg is not a dose that appears anywhere in Wegovy's UK Summary of Product Characteristics. If you have come across a seller advertising it at that strength, the MHRA's guidance is clear: medicines sold without a valid prescription through unverified channels carry serious safety risks, including the possibility that the product contains no active ingredient at all, or the wrong one. You can report suspect sellers directly through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
The safe starting point is always a licensed pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, supplying medicine through the authorised UK supply chain.
Wegovy's approved titration schedule begins at 0.25mg per week for the first four weeks. From there, a prescriber typically steps the dose up through 0.5mg, 1.0mg, and 1.7mg before reaching the standard 2.4mg maintenance dose. Each step lasts roughly four weeks, though the pace is guided by how well you are tolerating treatment rather than by a fixed calendar.
The 2.4mg dose was the established ceiling until January 2026, when the MHRA approved a higher 7.2mg maintenance dose. A dedicated single-dose 7.2mg pen followed in April 2026, designed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above. That pen uses a built-in, auto-dosing mechanism with a covered needle that locks after use. Titration to 7.2mg still begins from the same 0.25mg starting point.
Trial data reported around 20.7% average weight loss at 7.2mg over 72 weeks, narrowing the gap with tirzepatide results. For a closer look at what the 7.2mg step involves and how it fits into the broader schedule, our Wegovy 2 page covers that stage of treatment in detail. If you are curious about what the earlier steps of the schedule feel like in practice, our Wegovy 1 page explains how the treatment begins and what those initial doses typically involve, and the 1.0mg dose page explains what that stage of titration typically involves.
Specific dose availability is confirmed at the point of consultation, a prescriber assesses which step is right for you rather than supply being assumed.
Unlikely. Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, is also sold as Ozempic (for type 2 diabetes) and Rybelsus (oral tablets, also diabetes). Neither reaches 50mg. Zepbound is the US brand name for tirzepatide (sold in the UK as Mounjaro) and its highest dose is 15mg. No licensed semaglutide or tirzepatide product anywhere in the world carries a 50mg designation.
If you have been following semaglutide treatment news and stumbled across this figure in a forum or a social media group, it is worth treating it as a prompt to double-check with a prescriber rather than a source to trust. The NHS medicines page for semaglutide sets out the approved doses and what they are licensed for in plain language.
Questions about pricing for genuine Wegovy treatment (what a private prescription actually costs through a regulated service) are answered on our Wegovy cost page, which also explains what legitimate providers include in their pricing.
The first step is a clinical assessment with a qualified prescriber. Wegovy is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea. Ethnic-background thresholds can be lower under UK guidance, a prescriber will work through this with you.
At nume, every consultation is read by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber on the same day you submit it. Not software, a clinician who looks at your full picture before any prescription is issued. Orders placed before 12pm on a working day are dispatched the same day once approved, and arrive the next working day via DPD in plain packaging. If your order lands on a Friday afternoon or just before a bank holiday, it will go out the next available working day.
To get a full sense of what the treatment journey looks like from the beginning, our weight loss treatment guide covers how GLP-1 medicines fit into a broader approach. Or if you are ready to find out whether you are eligible, our clinical team at nume is available to review your case. Start your free consultation at our treatment page and a prescriber will be in touch the same day.
