The misconception: that you count clicks to measure the 2.4mg dose

That is not how any Wegovy pen operates. Wegovy pens are auto-injectors: the dose is fixed and pre-loaded by the manufacturer. You do not set a dose, count a number, or stop at a specific click. This matters practically. If someone believes they need to count to a certain number and stops early, they may not receive the full dose. If they keep pushing past completion expecting more clicks, they risk damaging the pen or forcing air. Neither is what the pen is designed for. The mechanism is simpler than people expect: press, hold, done.

Wegovy's 2.4mg strength is the standard maintenance dose that most people reach after working through the earlier steps in the schedule, it is not where treatment begins. How the 2.4mg pen actually works, the injection steps

Each Wegovy pen holds one dose. Once you remove it from the fridge and let it reach room temperature (the exact window is in the leaflet, follow that, not an estimate), you attach a new needle, check the liquid is clear and colourless, choose a clean injection site on your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, and rotate away from last week's spot. Cleaning the skin first with an alcohol swab is straightforward and worth doing consistently.

When you press the pen against the skin and activate it, you may hear one or several clicks as the spring mechanism releases. This is entirely normal. What varies between pen formats is the sound, not the dose, a quieter click does not mean a smaller dose was given. Hold the pen in place for the number of seconds specified in your leaflet to allow the full volume to deliver; lifting it early is the more common user error. The needle guard will lock once the pen is removed, which is the cue that it's spent. Dispose of the used pen and needle in a sharps container rather than household waste.

Reaching 2.4mg is a process, not a starting point. The licensed schedule begins at 0.25mg, moves through 0.5mg, 1.0mg, and 1.7mg (each held for roughly four weeks) before arriving at 2.4mg as the standard maintenance dose. Some people stay longer at an intermediate strength if their prescriber judges it appropriate. When to contact your prescriber, not the click chart

A click chart can tell you how the pen works mechanically. It cannot tell you whether your dose is working, whether a side effect needs attention, or whether the schedule should change. Common side effects at 2.4mg are gastrointestinal (nausea, loose stools, reflux, or reduced appetite) and most settle within a couple of weeks of each new dose.
