The Wegovy logo and what it actually means for patients in the UK

The Wegovy logo is owned by Novo Nordisk and must appear consistently across all genuine UK cartons, pens and patient leaflets.
Semaglutide (Wegovy) is a prescription-only medicine; no legitimate UK seller can supply it without a prior clinical assessment.
Counterfeit pens mimicking branded weight-loss medicines have been seized by the MHRA in large volumes, some containing hazardous substances.
Verifying a pharmacy on the GPhC register is the quickest way to confirm you are dealing with a legitimate, regulated supplier.

The Wegovy logo is a registered trademark of Novo Nordisk and appears on every piece of genuine UK packaging, from the outer carton to the pre-filled pen itself. Recognising it matters, because counterfeit weight-loss pens are in circulation and the logo is one of the fastest visual checks you have. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed in the UK for weight management in adults, available only on prescription following a clinical assessment by a qualified prescriber.

Branding, authenticity and what the logo cannot guarantee on its own

The misconception: if the logo looks right, the product must be genuine

This is the biggest mistake people make, and it is understandable. Branding feels like a shortcut to trust. If the familiar Wegovy wordmark is on the box, the pen inside must be real, right?

Not necessarily. Counterfeit manufacturers have become skilled at reproducing packaging. The MHRA has warned publicly that fake weight-loss pens, some bearing convincing branded labelling, have been sold through social media and unregistered online sources. A government enforcement operation in 2025 seized roughly 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines worth around £45 million, and the first illicit UK manufacturing site producing counterfeit tirzepatide pens was raided that same year. Sophisticated fakes can carry a plausible-looking logo; some have contained insulin rather than the stated medicine, causing hospitalisations.

The logo is a necessary condition of genuine Wegovy, not a sufficient one. Checking the logo is a starting point, never the end of the verification process. If you have a concern about a product or a seller, you can report it directly through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.

So what does the logo actually tell you, and how do you move beyond it? The next two sections cover both.

What genuine Wegovy UK packaging looks like and what to check

On authentic UK product, the Wegovy name appears in its standard typeface on the outer carton alongside the Novo Nordisk name, the UK licence holder's address, the strength (for instance 0.25 mg, 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg per dose), lot number, expiry date and the black triangle (▼) symbol. That triangle is legally required on all new medicines under additional MHRA monitoring, and its absence on labelled Wegovy product would itself be a red flag.

The pre-filled injection pen carries its own labelling, and the Patient Information Leaflet inside describes the pen's appearance in detail, including the label colours used at each strength. If anything on the outer carton does not match the leaflet, or if the leaflet is absent entirely, do not use the product and contact the MHRA.

A question our prescribers hear most weeks is whether it is safe to buy Wegovy from a non-UK website because the logo looks identical. The answer is that the logo cannot tell you whether the product was stored correctly, manufactured under licensed conditions, or is even the stated medicine. Supply chain integrity matters as much as surface appearance, and only pharmacies regulated by the GPhC and sourcing through the licensed UK supply chain can guarantee that chain. You can check any online pharmacy at the GPhC register, including by premises registration number.

For a deeper look at the medicine behind the branding, the Wegovy overview covers how it works, the licensed UK strengths and the clinical evidence.

Logos, branding and the wider semaglutide family

One source of genuine confusion is that semaglutide carries several brand names, each with its own distinct logo and packaging. Wegovy and Ozempic are both semaglutide by Novo Nordisk, but they carry different licences. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes in the UK, not for weight loss, and the MHRA is clear on this distinction. Rybelsus is an oral semaglutide tablet, also licensed for type 2 diabetes at doses of 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg. The newer Wegovy tablet, approved by the MHRA on 11 June 2026 as the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed in the UK for weight management, has its own packaging and a completely different dosing schedule (1.5 mg up to 25 mg). Seeing a semaglutide logo does not mean you are looking at a weight-management product.

If a seller offers any of these products with pricing far below the reported market range, without a requirement for a prescription, or via a social media channel rather than a registered pharmacy, those are meaningful red flags regardless of how authentic the branding appears, and if you want to see exactly what the genuine wordmark looks like for comparison, our Wegovy logo png reference page shows the official artwork clearly. The NHS medicines page for semaglutide explains what a legitimate supply looks like from the patient's perspective.

For context on what private treatment typically costs through a legitimate, regulated service, the Wegovy pricing guide sets out the figures honestly alongside what a complete service should include.

Using the logo as the start of your verification, not the end

Genuine Wegovy from a regulated UK pharmacy will always carry the Novo Nordisk logo and all required labelling. But the logo alone cannot confirm the pharmacy is registered, that your consultation was reviewed by a real prescriber, that the cold chain was maintained, or that the product is not a sophisticated fake. These are things only the supply chain and the regulatory framework can verify.

The practical checklist: confirm the pharmacy appears on the GPhC register; check that a real prescriber reviewed your consultation (not a triage algorithm); look for a requirement for identity and weight verification before supply; and expect to receive a Patient Information Leaflet with your pen, matching the labelling exactly.

If you are assessing whether to start treatment and want to understand whether you meet the clinical criteria, the eligibility page explains the licensed BMI thresholds and what a prescriber considers. For a broader view of the weight-management options regulated for use in the UK, the weight-loss treatments overview is a useful starting point. When you are ready to speak with a prescriber, you can start a free consultation and have your answers reviewed the same day by a GPhC-registered clinician.
