What Wegovy looks like: the pen, the dose markings and what arrives at your door

Picture the scenario: the delivery has arrived, you're sitting at the kitchen table, and the pen in your hand looks slightly different from the image you expected. That pause is sensible. A legitimate Wegovy pen is an auto-injector, a slim plastic device, roughly the length of a marker pen, with a clear inspection window near the needle end. Through that window you can see the medication itself. It should look like plain water: completely clear, with no floating specks and no cloudiness. If it looks otherwise, do not use it and contact the pharmacy.

The pen label carries the Novo Nordisk branding, the strength in milligrams, a batch number and an expiry date. Each dose strength is printed clearly; the label colour changes across the range, so a 0.25 mg starter pen and a 2.4 mg maintenance pen are visually distinct. Before your first injection it is worth taking thirty seconds to compare what's printed on your pen against the strength your prescriber confirmed. That single check catches most mix-ups before they happen.

The needle is not pre-attached. Wegovy pens use a screw-on needle cap that must be attached fresh each week, just before injection. How the pen is meant to feel in use

The pen is designed for self-injection into the abdomen, the front of the thigh or the upper arm. You press the pen firmly against the skin, press the injection button and hold it there while the dose is delivered, most people find the process takes around ten seconds. A window or indicator on the pen changes (it turns yellow or a number advances, depending on the pen generation) to confirm the full dose has gone in. Once used, the needle retracts and the pen locks. It will not fire again.

Storage matters for appearance too. Wegovy is refrigerated at 2 to 8°C; a pen that has been left in a hot car or a bag in direct sun may look different from one kept correctly, and temperature excursion can affect efficacy even when the liquid still appears clear. The pen you inject is not the pen you ordered from a social-media seller at a price that seemed too good. The MHRA has warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss injection pens, some seized fake pens contained insulin rather than semaglutide, with serious consequences for the people who used them. The packaging that arrives from a regulated pharmacy

A Wegovy prescription dispensed by a regulated UK pharmacy arrives in manufacturer-sealed outer packaging. Inside you will find the pen or pens for that supply period, a patient information leaflet and, typically, a needle attachment for each pen. The outer carton carries the licensed UK product information: the Novo Nordisk name, the MHRA authorisation details, the strength and the batch and expiry data. Nothing on the outside advertises what the parcel contains.

At nume, packaging is plain and unbranded on the outside, your neighbours see a DPD box, not a medical label. Once you open it, though, the contents should match exactly what a licensed product looks like: sealed, labelled, leaflet included.
