Start journey Learn moreWegovy (semaglutide) can be kept outside the fridge for a limited time at room temperature, but the exact window matters. Once a pen has been stored out of refrigeration, the clock is running, and whether you can still use it depends on how long it has been left out and how warm it got. For the precise time limit that applies to your specific pen and dose, the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with your medication is the definitive guide — and it is worth reading before you make a call on whether to use or discard the pen. Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine: a GPhC-registered prescriber has assessed your suitability before dispensing it, so treating the pen with the same care is part of getting the most from your treatment.

Picture this: you got home, unpacked your delivery, and woke up the next morning to find the Wegovy pen still sitting on the kitchen worktop. It is a genuinely common situation, and the first instinct of many people is to put it straight back in the fridge and say nothing. That instinct is understandable, but it does not undo anything. What matters now is how long the pen was out and what the temperature was.
Novo Nordisk's guidance, reflected in the Patient Information Leaflet and the medicine's Summary of Product Characteristics on the electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC), states that Wegovy pens may be stored outside the fridge for a defined period at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. That window is the ceiling, if your kitchen was warmer than that on a hot summer night, the safety margin shrinks further. If you need a clear breakdown of exactly how many hours are permitted, our guide to Wegovy out of fridge time sets out the specific limits so you are not left estimating from memory.
One misconception worth letting go gently: putting the pen back in the fridge does not restart the clock or restore any stability lost during time at room temperature. The cumulative time out of refrigeration is what the guidance refers to, however it is broken up. Our guide to what happens when Wegovy is left out of the fridge goes into this in detail if you want to understand the numbers properly.
Semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy, is a protein-based molecule. Heat and light can degrade it, which means a pen left in a hot car, on a sunny windowsill, or next to a radiator is in a different situation from one left on a cool, shaded worktop.
Freezing is the other failure mode people sometimes overlook. A pen placed in the freezer (either by mistake or in an attempt to keep it cold during travel) should not be used. Frozen pens cannot simply thaw and be treated as normal. The NHS medicines page for semaglutide confirms that you should check for visible changes before injecting: cloudiness, particles, or discolouration are all reasons to stop and speak to your pharmacy. If you are using a different semaglutide product and want to understand how room-temperature limits apply to it, our page on semaglutide left out of the fridge covers the key guidance in one place. A pen that looks fine to the eye but has been stored outside its recommended conditions for too long is trickier to assess, which is why the leaflet's time limits exist.
If you are travelling and need to keep Wegovy out of the fridge for a period, a small insulated cool bag (not ice-packed, to avoid freezing) is the standard approach. Keeping it away from direct sunlight and out of checked luggage on flights is also wise.
If you have worked out that your pen has been outside the fridge for longer than the leaflet allows, the guidance is straightforward: do not use it. Contact your pharmacy to discuss what comes next.
A discarded pen is not a small thing, financially or practically, and it is worth being honest about what happened when you speak to your prescribing team. They have seen this before. If you are managing your Wegovy pen carefully for travel or a routine change, our page on what to do when Wegovy is not kept in the fridge covers planning ahead rather than managing after the fact.
For a broader look at how room-temperature storage interacts with your injection routine, the Wegovy fridge storage guide covers the full picture from delivery to disposal. And if you have a question about storage that your leaflet does not quite answer, the nume support team is available seven days a week.
If a pen has been wasted and you need a replacement, a new clinical review is part of the process at a properly regulated online pharmacy. That is not a bureaucratic hurdle, it is evidence that the service is taking your treatment seriously. At nume every repeat order is reviewed by a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber before anything is dispatched. If cost is on your mind while you work out logistics, the current Wegovy pricing page sets out what is included in one transparent figure.
Wegovy is available only on prescription, and getting a replacement through a clinically supervised route is the only safe option. If you are concerned about fake pens or unverified online sellers, the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme is where to report anything suspicious. The scale of counterfeit pen seizures in the UK in recent years makes this more than theoretical, the MHRA has warned publicly about products sold without clinical oversight that have contained the wrong substances entirely.
If you are not yet a patient and are wondering whether Wegovy is right for you, check your eligibility with a free consultation and a prescriber will review your case the same day.
