Wegovy Videos — What They Actually Show and What to Do Next

Wegovy is administered once weekly as a subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm — rotate sites each week.
The pre-filled Wegovy pen delivers a single dose and is discarded after use; each strength comes in a separate pen.
Injection technique videos typically cover: needle attachment, priming, skin pinch, injection angle, and safe disposal in a sharps container.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed in the UK for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above (or 27-plus with a weight-related condition).

Wegovy videos walk you through the pre-filled pen: how to attach a needle, prime the device, pick an injection site, and dispose of the pen safely afterwards. Most official how-to clips run three to five minutes and cover the full process from fridge to sharps bin. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine, so any video is a supplement to the guidance your prescriber gives you, not a substitute for it. Clinical suitability still has to be assessed before treatment can begin.

What the best Wegovy injection videos cover, and what to check before you follow any of them

What do official Wegovy how-to videos actually show?

The best injection videos are produced or endorsed by Novo Nordisk and walk through each physical step in sequence. First, the cap comes off and a disposable needle is attached and primed. Then the injector is held against pinched skin at roughly a 90-degree angle, the button is pressed, and the pen is held in place for several seconds so the full dose is delivered. The needle is then removed, the pen recapped, and everything goes into a sharps container.

A good Wegovy how-to video will also show what a correctly primed pen looks like (a small drop of liquid at the needle tip) so you know the device is working before you inject. If you are uncertain about any step, you can watch our Wegovy use video, which covers every stage of the technique in detail, alongside the detailed guidance in our Wegovy how-to video guide. The NHS patient information leaflet in the box is the clinical authority; videos reinforce it, they do not replace it.

One practical note many people miss: the pen comes out of the fridge about 30 minutes before your injection, not right before, cold medication delivered straight from the fridge door is more likely to sting. Let it reach room temperature on a clean surface first.

Are the injection videos the same for every Wegovy dose?

Broadly, yes. The physical technique for administering Wegovy does not change as you move through the dose-escalation schedule, the pen design is consistent across all strengths (0.25 mg up to the standard 2.4 mg maintenance dose, and the newer 7.2 mg pen approved by the MHRA in April 2026). What changes between doses is simply the amount of semaglutide delivered per injection. So a video filmed with the starter pen is procedurally accurate when you are on the highest dose, as long as you are using the correct pen for your current prescription.

If you want to see the semaglutide injection process explained in a clinical context, our semaglutide video page looks at the medicine alongside the injection technique. For more background on the medicine itself (how it works, its evidence base, and UK licensing) the semaglutide overview is a useful read alongside any visual guide.

One important watch-out: videos shared on social media by individuals may show incorrect technique, improper storage, or even counterfeit products. Stick to content from Novo Nordisk, the NHS, or a GPhC-registered pharmacy.

What do videos not cover that your prescriber will?

Injection videos cover technique. They do not cover whether Wegovy is right for you, how to manage side effects if nausea becomes difficult in the first couple of weeks, or what to do if you miss a dose. Those decisions belong with your prescriber, and the Wegovy treatment page explains the clinical picture, eligibility, what the NICE guidance says, and how the dose schedule is managed.

NICE recommends semaglutide for weight management within a specialist weight management service and for a maximum of two years, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity, details set out in NICE technology appraisal TA875. The NHS patient information leaflet (available on the electronic Medicines Compendium) sets out exactly what to do if a dose is missed, how to store the pen, and which side effects need urgent medical attention. No video covers all of that reliably.

Common side effects are mostly gastrointestinal: nausea, loose stools, constipation, and reflux tend to be most noticeable after a new dose starts, then settle. Persistent or severe stomach pain (particularly pain that radiates to the back) should prompt same-day medical advice.

How does a video fit into starting Wegovy through a regulated UK pharmacy?

Watching an injection guide is a sensible step once you have a prescription. It is not a substitute for the clinical process that gets you there. In the UK, Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine: a registered prescriber has to assess your health history, BMI, and any relevant conditions before issuing one. That assessment cannot happen on YouTube.

If you are weighing up whether to get Wegovy through an online pharmacy, the thing to verify first is that the pharmacy appears on the GPhC register, you can check any UK pharmacy at pharmacyregulation.org/registers. For broader context on weight-loss medicine options, the weight-loss treatments overview is a practical starting point.

At nume, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber (a real clinician, not software) reviews every consultation. Once approved, treatment is dispatched the same day for free next-working-day delivery. If you have questions about the process before committing to anything, our FAQs cover the most common ones. When you are ready, start your free consultation and a prescriber will take it from there.
