Start journey Learn moreYou cannot legally obtain Wegovy in the UK without a valid prescription from a registered prescriber. It is a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, which means no pharmacy — online or otherwise — can lawfully supply it without one, regardless of what some sellers claim. The decision you really face, then, is not whether to skip the prescription, but how to get a proper clinical assessment as quickly and safely as possible. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a genuine, effective medicine that has changed how weight management works for many people; the prescription requirement exists because a clinician needs to confirm it is right for you specifically, check for contraindications, and set a safe starting point. That protection is worth understanding, not sidestepping.

The prescription requirement for Wegovy is not a bureaucratic inconvenience. Semaglutide interacts with a range of health conditions, it is contraindicated in certain gastrointestinal disorders, a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma, and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 syndrome, among others. It also affects the absorption of oral medicines taken at the same time, including the contraceptive pill. A prescriber reviewing your Summary Care Record, current medications and medical history can catch problems that a website form cannot. That screening step is, genuinely, the point.
Sellers who offer Wegovy without requiring a clinical assessment are operating outside UK law. The MHRA has been clear on this: GLP-1 medicines are not assessed for cosmetic or quick weight loss, and supply outside a clinical pathway is not sanctioned. Reporting a suspect seller takes less than five minutes via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, and the agency actively pursues enforcement, by late 2025, approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines with a street value of around £45 million had been seized.
Fake pens are a real and documented risk. Some seized counterfeits tested positive for insulin, a drug that can cause fatal hypoglycaemia when injected by someone without diabetes. No online price saving changes that calculation. If you have found a seller offering semaglutide pens at a price that looks too good to be true, or one that does not ask health questions, it almost certainly is not genuine Wegovy.
The NHS does prescribe Wegovy, but within strict criteria. Under NICE guidance (TA875), semaglutide for weight management is commissioned only through specialist weight management services, for a maximum of two years, and for adults meeting specific BMI and comorbidity thresholds. Waiting times through those services are commonly long, measured in months or years in many areas. If you are curious about when a prescriber is likely to recommend Wegovy, the eligibility picture is more nuanced than the headline BMI figure suggests.
Private prescription is the faster legal route for those who qualify clinically. A GPhC-registered online pharmacy can complete a clinical assessment, issue a prescription, and dispatch treatment without any GP referral. The GPhC register is publicly searchable, and checking it before you hand over any health information or payment is a reasonable precaution every time. Our clinical team at nume includes GPhC-registered Independent Prescribers who review each consultation personally, a named clinician, not automated software.
For a fuller picture of private access to Wegovy and what the process looks like step by step, the prescription pathway covers each stage in plain language.
When Wegovy is prescribed and dispensed through a regulated UK pharmacy, what arrives is a pre-filled Novo Nordisk pen, in manufacturer packaging, with the batch number traceable through the licensed UK supply chain. At nume, orders placed before 12pm on working days are dispatched the same day once clinically approved and delivered free the next working day by DPD, tracked to your door in plain, unbranded packaging. The pen itself carries Novo Nordisk's standard labels; if anything looks different, that is a reason to contact the pharmacy before using it.
This matters because counterfeits have been visually indistinguishable from the real thing for many patients. Buying through a verified GPhC-registered pharmacy is not just a legal formality; it is the only way to be certain the supply chain is intact. You can verify any online pharmacy by searching the GPhC's public register. Our pharmacy registration number is 9012878, you can check it directly on that register.
Cost is a fair consideration too. Private Wegovy pricing varies between providers; following Eli Lilly's September 2025 price increases across the market, typical monthly costs range roughly £149–£375 depending on the dose. The treatment page sets out what is included in our pricing. One thing worth knowing: a legitimate price always includes the prescription itself, services that separate the medicine cost from a consultation fee are charging twice for something a regulated pharmacy bundles as standard.
The framing of this question (Wegovy without a prescription) often reflects genuine frustration with NHS access, or uncertainty about how the private route works rather than any intention to cut corners. Both are completely understandable. NHS waiting lists for specialist weight management services are long, GP awareness of the new prescribing pathway is still uneven, and the existence of a fast, clinician-led private option is not as widely known as it should be.
The answer to that frustration is not to find a seller who skips the clinical step, it is to find one that does it properly and quickly. A regulated prescriber reviewing a well-designed consultation form can complete a same-day clinical assessment that covers the same ground a GP appointment would, often more thoroughly in this area. If you want to understand the full eligibility picture before starting, the guide to getting Wegovy prescribed walks through what prescribers are looking for. You can also explore whether a GP is strictly necessary or whether an Independent Prescriber covers the same clinical ground.
Treatment for weight management using a licensed medicine deserves the same clinical infrastructure as any other prescription. Our weight-loss service is built around that principle. When you are ready, starting a free consultation is the next step.
