Search for "weight loss shot injections" and you'll find references to lipotropic jabs, fat-dissolving injections, vitamin B12 shots and various clinic treatments sold under vague names. None of those are the same as the licensed GLP-1 medicines. The licensed options act on receptors in the gut and brain, not on fat tissue itself. Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, the only medicine of that type licensed in the UK for weight management. Semaglutide, sold as Wegovy for weight loss, activates GLP-1 receptors alone. Both slow how quickly the stomach empties, reduce appetite signals and lower caloric intake over time. This distinction matters practically. Products sold as fat-dissolving injections, slimming shots or "skinny jabs" are often entirely different substances, sometimes unlicensed, sometimes counterfeit. Who the licensed shot injections are actually designed for

Both Mounjaro and Wegovy carry UK licences for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or BMI 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnoea or high cholesterol. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. A prescriber considers the full picture (not BMI alone) before issuing a prescription, and certain conditions (including a history of pancreatitis and some thyroid conditions) require careful discussion first.
