How UK private Wegovy pricing actually works

Private Wegovy pricing in the UK is not fixed. Eli Lilly's September 2025 list-price increase for Mounjaro drew most of the headlines, but Novo Nordisk's semaglutide pricing has also shifted as demand has grown. As widely reported, you can read more about what drives wegovy cost and how monthly private costs for Wegovy across different providers have sat broadly in the range of £150 to over £300, varying by dose and the services wrapped around it. The 7.2mg maintenance dose (approved by the MHRA in early 2026 for adults with a BMI of 30 or above) sits at the higher end of that range given the clinical complexity of reaching that dose. What the 7.2mg dose costs specifically is worth reading if that is where you expect to end up.

The dose you pay for also changes over time. Treatment begins at 0.25mg and is titrated upward by your prescriber, typically in monthly steps, through 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, or further if clinically appropriate. So the figure quoted at the lower doses is not the figure you will pay at maintenance. Any cost comparison that shows one monthly price without specifying the dose is missing context. Wegovy is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or pre-diabetes. Lower BMI thresholds apply for certain ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. Being within the licensed range does not automatically mean treatment is suitable, that is the prescriber's call, not an algorithm's. What a headline price often leaves out

This is the part that catches people out. Some providers list a per-pen or per-month medicine price and add the consultation fee, prescription fee and delivery charge separately. By the time you reach checkout, the total is meaningfully different from the number that brought you there. A few things to check before assuming two prices are comparable:

Does the price include the consultation and prescription? Some clinics charge £20 to £50 or more for the prescribing step on top of the medicine cost. Does it include delivery? Some use standard post; others charge for tracked courier services. What happens if you have a question between orders? Aftercare (real clinical support when side effects flare or a dose increase is due) is not built into every service. And is there any obligation to continue? Auto-renewal subscriptions are common in this market; you may be charged before a clinical review takes place.

Why 'cheapest' is the wrong question for a prescription medicine

Wegovy is sold without a prescription by some online sellers. The MHRA has issued repeated warnings about counterfeit and illegally traded weight-loss pens circulating in the UK, the agency seized around 20 million doses with an estimated street value of around £45 million in 2025, and found the first illicit domestic manufacturing site producing fake tirzepatide pens in Northampton. Fake pens have been found to contain insulin. Suspect sellers can be reported via the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme, and any pharmacy you buy from should be verifiable on the GPhC register before you hand over payment.
