Start journey Learn moreSemaglutide tablets for weight loss became available in the UK in June 2026, when the MHRA approved Wegovy tablets as the first oral GLP-1 medicine licensed here for weight management. Because they are a Prescription-Only Medicine, the only legal way to obtain them is through a clinician who assesses your suitability and issues a prescription. No online search, no supplement shop, and no social-media seller can change that. At nume, a GPhC-registered online pharmacy, a named Independent Prescriber reads your consultation the same day it arrives — and if treatment is clinically appropriate, your tablets are dispatched that day. This page walks through each step of the process, what to check when choosing a provider, and who meets the licensed criteria.

Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) are the only semaglutide tablets licensed for weight management in the UK. It is worth being precise here because semaglutide comes in several forms: Rybelsus is also an oral semaglutide tablet, but it is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, and the doses are completely different. If you are looking to lose weight, Wegovy tablets are what the MHRA has approved, and that approval only came on 11 June 2026, the UK was the first country in Europe to grant it.
Because these are a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, a prescriber must assess you before any tablets can be supplied. That assessment is not a formality: the prescriber checks your BMI, your medical history, any medicines you already take, and whether there are reasons treatment would not be safe for you. If you are ready to buy a semaglutide tablet through a regulated pharmacy, the licensed criteria cover adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 29.9 alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol. BMI alone does not guarantee approval; the clinical picture as a whole decides it.
The NHS medicines page for semaglutide gives a clear patient-level overview of what the medicine does and its known side effects, a useful first read before you consult.
Once you know you want to explore Wegovy tablets, the question of where to buy them comes down to finding a pharmacy operating legally. In the UK, every pharmacy dispensing prescription medicines must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You can check any online pharmacy at any time on the GPhC register; nume's registration number is 9012878. That check takes about 30 seconds and is the single most reliable signal that a supplier is legitimate.
The MHRA has been blunt about the risks of buying weight-loss medicines from unverified sellers. In 2025 alone, around 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines, worth roughly £45 million, were seized. Fake pens have been found to contain insulin rather than the stated medicine, with serious consequences for the people who used them. The same risks apply to anyone looking to buy semaglutide oral tablets without a prescription from sellers on social media or unfamiliar websites. Red flags include sellers offering treatment without any clinical assessment, prices well below the market range, and discount codes for prescription medicines from sources you cannot verify. Report any suspect seller at yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk.
If a source cannot point you to a GPhC registration number, walk away.
A regulated online pharmacy will ask you to complete a structured medical questionnaire covering your BMI, relevant conditions, current medicines, and any contraindications. At nume, photo ID verification and live weight confirmation on video are part of the process, not optional extras. A prescriber then reads your responses personally. If clinically suitable, a prescription is issued and your tablets are dispensed from our pharmacy the same day for orders received before 12pm.
Delivery is free and arrives with DPD the next working day, tracked to your door. The tablets need no refrigeration, which makes the routine straightforward: many people keep them on a kitchen shelf and take one first thing in the morning before the kettle has boiled, with a small glass of plain water, waiting at least 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else.
If you are currently on the weekly Wegovy injection and your prescriber considers a switch appropriate, that conversation happens within the clinical review. Specific timing and dosing decisions stay with the prescriber and the Patient Information Leaflet; our role is to make sure the clinical assessment is thorough and the supply chain is verified. For a broader look at your options, the weight-loss treatment overview covers the medicines available through nume, including how they compare.
Wegovy tablets are not currently available on the NHS. NICE would need to complete a formal appraisal before NHS commissioning could begin, and no appraisal has been announced for the tablet form. The weekly Wegovy injection does have a NICE recommendation (TA875), but access via specialist weight management services involves long waiting lists in most parts of England, and criteria are strict. NHS access to semaglutide tablets is a separate question worth reading if you want the full picture on what is and is not currently funded.
For people who do not meet NHS criteria or prefer not to wait, a private prescription through a regulated pharmacy is the alternative route, and our guide to how to buy semaglutide tablets through a verified pharmacy walks you through each step. That means paying privately, the cost covers the consultation, the prescription, the medicine, and delivery. At nume, one transparent price covers all of those together, with no subscription and no automatic renewal. Every repeat order is clinically re-reviewed. You can see current treatment pricing and start your free consultation on our treatment page.
