The myth: Wegovy delivers fast, steady losses every single month from week one

Averaging 15% total loss across 68 weeks produces a tidy monthly headline, but that average masks a very uneven curve.

In the STEP 1 trial, semaglutide 2.4mg produced around 15% average body-weight reduction, but most of that came in the second half of treatment once participants reached the full maintenance dose. The first several months are spent on lower titration steps (0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1.0mg, 1.7mg), each held for roughly four weeks, the body is adjusting, not yet at full therapeutic effect. The higher 7.2mg dose, approved by the MHRA in January 2026 and available as a dedicated single-dose pen from April 2026, showed around 20.7% average loss over 72 weeks in trials, approaching tirzepatide territory.
