Start journey Learn moreMost people on Wegovy lose somewhere between 0.5 and 1.5 kg per month on average, though the rate shifts as treatment progresses: early months tend to move faster, while the later phase settles toward a plateau. Over 68 weeks in the STEP 1 trial, participants lost around 15% of body weight on average at the 2.4mg maintenance dose, as published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Understanding that monthly figure matters when you're also trying to work out what this treatment costs, because the two questions are linked: a medicine taken for months or years needs to be priced in a way that makes sense over time, not just for the first pen. Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine, and suitability is determined by a prescriber following clinical assessment — not by the number you type into a price comparison.

The honest answer is that it varies by individual, by dose, and by how far along treatment you are. Clinical trial data gives the clearest benchmark: the STEP 1 trial reported roughly 15% average body-weight reduction over 68 weeks at the 2.4mg weekly dose. Spread across the treatment period, that works out to somewhere in the region of 0.5–1.5 kg per month for many participants, but the curve is not flat. The first few months at lower doses (while the body adjusts) tend to show less loss; once the maintenance dose is reached and tolerated, the pace often picks up before slowing as weight stabilises.
The newer 7.2mg Wegovy pen, approved by the MHRA in April 2026, reported around 20.7% average weight loss over 72 weeks in trials, closing much of the gap with tirzepatide at its highest dose. For a fuller picture of what typical results look like month by month, our breakdown of average monthly weight loss on Wegovy covers the data in detail, and our guide to Wegovy weight loss per month sets out how those results tend to progress across the full treatment timeline. What matters for this page is that the monthly result and the monthly cost are inseparable: you're committing to a sustained programme, not a single purchase.
These are also prescription-only medicines. NICE's appraisal of semaglutide (TA875) sets out who qualifies under NHS criteria. Private eligibility, which is broader, still requires a prescriber to assess your medical history, current weight, and any relevant conditions, a step that cannot be skipped.
Private Wegovy pricing in the UK is quoted per pen, per month. Because treatment runs through several dose steps before reaching maintenance, the monthly cost changes as you titrate up. The dose you're on when you stabilise will typically be higher than the starting dose, so planning around only the starter-pen price is likely to underestimate what you'll spend.
Headline prices from online providers often reflect the pen alone. What they may not include: the initial consultation fee, the prescription fee, repeat clinical reviews before each new supply, and delivery. Add those individually and the real monthly outlay climbs. The typical cost of Wegovy in the UK depends heavily on which dose you're at and which provider you use, a figure that looks low at the 0.25mg starting dose will look different six months in at maintenance.
One practical check worth doing in under a minute: before paying for any online pharmacy, look it up on the GPhC pharmacy register. A registered pharmacy has a premises number you can verify instantly. If the site isn't listed, that's a hard stop, not a reason to proceed cautiously, but a reason to stop entirely.
At nume, one price covers everything: the free consultation reviewed the same day by a named GPhC-registered prescriber, the prescription, genuine Wegovy from the licensed UK supply chain, and free next-working-day DPD delivery. There are no consultation add-ons, no prescription surcharges, no delivery charges, and no subscription that renews without your knowledge. Every repeat order is clinically re-reviewed before dispatch.
We are not the cheapest provider, and that is a considered position. Running photo-ID identity checks, live video weight verification, GP notification in line with GPhC guidance, and Summary Care Record checks where appropriate costs more than a simple order form and a fulfilment house. The current treatment pricing is on our treatment page, we don't print per-pen prices in editorial copy because the right place to confirm your dose and its cost is after a clinical conversation, not before it. If you want to check what Wegovy would cost based on your BMI before starting that conversation, our BMI-based Wegovy price tool gives you a personalised starting point. For a broader look at how Wegovy costs stack up, our Wegovy price guide gives useful context, and the average monthly cost of Wegovy breaks down what long-term spending typically looks like.
For a Prescription-Only Medicine dispensed by a regulated pharmacy, the lowest price is not a signal of good value, it is a reason to look harder at what's missing. The MHRA has warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold online; in one enforcement operation alone, around 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines (roughly £45m in estimated street value) were seized, and a site producing fake tirzepatide pens was raided in 2025. Fake pens have been found to contain insulin rather than the intended medicine. Report anything suspicious to the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme, which accepts reports from patients as well as healthcare professionals.
Discount codes attached to a prescription medicine from an unverified seller are a red flag, not a benefit. A legitimate online pharmacy will not offer promotional codes on POMs, and num does not run them. What we offer instead is a transparent price, a clinical process that meets GPhC standards, and prescribers who can be looked up by name. If your main question is whether Wegovy is right for you rather than where to find it cheapest, the evidence on how much weight people typically lose on Wegovy is a better place to start.
