Start journey Learn moreMounjaro KwikPen is available in the UK, but only on a private prescription following a clinical assessment — that is the law, and it is also what keeps you safe. NICE's appraisal of tirzepatide (TA1026) confirmed the medicine's efficacy and set the framework for its licensed use in weight management; outside that clinical framework, what you're buying is unknown. The KwikPen itself is a pre-filled, once-weekly injection device containing tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist made by Eli Lilly and sourced through the licensed UK supply chain. Getting it properly means a prescriber reviews your health, confirms the medicine is appropriate for you, and issues a prescription — the pen follows. At nume, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reads every consultation personally, the same day it arrives.

NICE's recommendation for tirzepatide, published in December 2024 and updated in September 2025, is worth reading if you want to understand why a clinical consultation is non-negotiable rather than bureaucratic box-ticking. The NICE appraisal TA1026 concluded tirzepatide should be prescribed for adults with a BMI of 35 or above alongside at least one weight-related condition, with lower BMI thresholds applying for some ethnic backgrounds. The licensed indication on the Mounjaro SmPC (available via the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency's eMC listing) extends to a BMI of 27 or above where a qualifying condition is present. In both cases, a prescriber must assess the full picture: your weight, your health history, any medicines you already take, and whether tirzepatide is safe for you specifically. BMI alone has never been the whole story. That assessment is where the process starts, not where it ends.
For a fuller overview of how the medicine works and what to expect, the Mounjaro treatment page covers the clinical background in detail. If your question is specifically about NHS routes, buying Mounjaro on the NHS has different criteria and waiting lists that are worth understanding separately.
The only legal way to obtain a KwikPen in the UK is through a pharmacy registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, operating under a valid prescription issued by an authorised prescriber. At nume, the steps are straightforward. You complete a free clinical consultation online, your health details, current medications, weight and relevant conditions. A GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber then reads your answers; at nume that review happens the same day, not in a few days. If the treatment is clinically appropriate, a prescription is issued and your order is prepared in our GPhC-registered pharmacy (registration 9012878, verifiable at the GPhC register).
Place your order before 12pm on a weekday and, once approved, your pen ships the same afternoon. DPD delivers it the next working day, tracked on your phone, in packaging that tells nobody what's inside. If you have questions about which dose you're being assessed for, our prescribers can discuss that as part of the consultation process; the 15mg KwikPen page explains how the higher doses fit into the titration schedule. Every repeat order is clinically re-reviewed before it leaves our pharmacy. That is not a formality. It matters.
The MHRA has issued repeated public warnings about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold via social media and unregulated online sellers, fake pens that have, in documented cases, contained insulin rather than the labelled medicine, leading to serious harm. In October 2025, the MHRA raided what it described as the first illicit UK manufacturing site producing counterfeit tirzepatide pens, seizing approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines with a street value of around £45 million. You can report any suspected fake seller directly at the MHRA Yellow Card site.
The pattern is predictable: prices far below the private market, sellers operating without a pharmacy registration, medicines offered without a clinical assessment. A few red flags worth knowing: any listing that does not require a prescription is operating outside UK law; any seller you cannot verify on the GPhC pharmacy register is unregulated; and if you want to buy Mounjaro safely, discount codes circulating on social media for prescription medicines are a warning sign rather than a deal. Worth checking before you buy from anywhere.
The licensed criteria for Mounjaro in a private weight-management setting are: adults aged 18 or over, BMI of 30 or above, or BMI of 27 to 29.9 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower thresholds apply for certain ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. Those are the parameters the prescriber works within; meeting them does not guarantee a prescription, because the full consultation may reveal a contraindication or a reason to choose a different approach.
If you're thinking about injections versus other forms, the Mounjaro pen overview explains the KwikPen device in more detail. Questions about using the right needles for your pen are answered on the KwikPen needles page. For a broader look at the weight-loss treatment options available at nume, our treatment overview is a useful starting point before committing to a consultation. Our clinical team's approach to prescribing is set out on the clinical team profile for anyone who wants to understand who is reviewing their case. When you're ready, start your free consultation and a prescriber will take it from there.
