The UK licences for both Mounjaro and Wegovy set a starting BMI threshold of 30 for most adults, or 27 if you have at least one weight-related health condition. Conditions that count include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, and certain cardiovascular conditions. Because tirzepatide slows gastric emptying, it can reduce absorption of the oral pill, particularly in the first weeks of treatment and after each dose increase. NHS England's guidance on weight management injections advises adding a non-oral method of contraception, such as condoms, for the first four weeks of treatment and for four weeks after any dose increase.
