If the provider checks out, the next question is what that figure actually includes. Because the honest answer is: the same number can mean very different things. Some prices bundle in consultation and prescription. Others add a separate clinical assessment fee at checkout, or charge for delivery on top, or expect you to pay again each time you need a dose review. Weight loss injections aren't a one-off purchase (you're on them for months, sometimes longer) so the real monthly cost is what you pay after every layer is added, not the headline number.

Eli Lilly raised the UK list price for Mounjaro significantly from 1 September 2025, with the highest doses reportedly rising from around £122 to around £330 per four-week pen; as widely reported in August 2025, this fed through to private market prices across the board. The parts of the bill that don't always make it into the headline

This is where the arithmetic can shift on you. A few things that frequently stay off the front page of a provider's website:

Consultation fees. Some clinics charge £25–£50 for the initial assessment, or fold it in but then bill again for dose-review appointments. If you're titrating up every four weeks (which is standard) those appointments add up over a treatment course.

Prescription fees. Separate from consultation, some providers charge for the actual prescription document. Legitimate private prescriptions cost money to issue; some providers absorb this, others don't.

NHS weight loss injections: what they cost (and who qualifies)

If you're wondering whether you can get these injections on the NHS, the short answer is: possibly, but the eligibility criteria are strict and the waiting times can be long. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) became available through NHS primary care from June 2025 under NICE technology appraisal TA1026, initially for adults with a BMI of 40 or above plus four or more specific weight-related conditions. A second cohort (BMI 35–39.9 with four or more conditions) opened in June 2026. Further groups follow in 2027.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is also recommended by NICE, under TA875, but only via specialist weight management services and for a maximum of two years; NHS waiting lists for those services are commonly long. On the NHS, the treatment itself is free at point of use if you meet the criteria. The cost to you is time: time to get a referral, time on a list, time in the system. Sellers offering these medicines without a prescription, through social media, or at prices well below market rate are red flags, not bargains.
