How many injections does a Wegovy pen contain?

One Wegovy pen holds four pre-set weekly doses — there is no measuring or drawing up required.
The pen delivers each dose via a fixed-dose mechanism; pressing the button releases the full prescribed amount automatically.
Wegovy is available in five dose strengths: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg (plus the newer 7.2 mg pen), with each pen containing four injections at that strength.
A prescriber decides which strength is appropriate at each stage; patients do not select or adjust the dose themselves.

Each Wegovy pen contains exactly four weekly doses, which means one pen covers a full four-week supply at whatever strength you are currently prescribed. The decision that matters most for day-to-day use is knowing when you are on your last dose so you can request your next supply in time. Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine, so your dose, timing and titration schedule are set by a clinician who has assessed your individual health picture.

Using your Wegovy pen: what the four-injection structure means in practice

The decision: will one pen last you the full month?

For most people this question answers itself quickly. One pen, four doses, one injection every seven days — that is four weeks of treatment in your hand. The practical issue arises at the edges of a prescription cycle: if your next pen arrives late, or if you are travelling on dose day, a four-injection pen offers no buffer. Planning a short holiday during your supply window is the kind of thing worth flagging at your next clinical review, not improvising on the day.

It is also worth understanding what the pen does not contain: there is no spare or partial dose stored inside. Once the fourth injection is administered the pen is spent. A quick habit that takes under a minute (count the remaining clicks or check the dose window on the pen barrel before putting it back in the fridge) tells you exactly where you are in the four-injection sequence. Our guide to how many clicks are in a Wegovy pen explains what the counter reads at each stage.

If you are unsure about your injection schedule or whether a dose was delivered properly, the right call is to contact your prescriber rather than guess. At nume we offer priority aftercare seven days a week for exactly these moments.

What the four doses look like at different strengths

The four-injections-per-pen rule applies at every level of the titration schedule. Whether you are on the 0.25 mg starting dose or the 2.4 mg maintenance dose, the pen format is the same: four pre-loaded, fixed amounts, no user adjustment. The Wegovy overview page covers the full licensed titration pathway in the UK.

The newer 7.2 mg single-dose pen works differently, each pen contains one injection only, reflecting a different device design approved by the MHRA in April 2026. So if you are ever moved to that higher maintenance dose, the maths changes: you would need four separate pens per month. Your prescriber will make this clear before any such change, and the volume held in each Wegovy pen also shifts between formats.

The volume of semaglutide solution inside each pen varies by strength, which is why dose windows and graduation marks differ. The millilitre content of a standard Wegovy pen is a slightly different question from injection count, both answers are useful if you are trying to understand your pen fully.

Storing a partly-used pen between injections

Because each pen spans a month, you will return it to storage three times between injections. The SmPC and Patient Information Leaflet are the definitive reference for the exact room-temperature window allowed outside the fridge, always check the leaflet rather than relying on a remembered figure, because the window differs between Wegovy and similar devices. General guidance from the NHS semaglutide medicines page covers core storage principles, and our page on keeping Wegovy outside the fridge addresses the travel question specifically.

Between doses, keep the pen capped, away from heat and light, and out of reach of children. Replace the needle after each injection, a fresh needle every time is standard practice, not optional. Dispose of used needles immediately in an appropriate sharps container; needles should never go into household waste.

How cost and supply fit together over four weeks

Since each pen covers exactly four injections, your monthly cost is, in effect, the cost of a single pen. The price varies by dose strength and provider. If you are comparing private options, it is worth reading what providers typically include (or leave out) in a headline figure. Our Wegovy price comparison guide sets out what a transparent price should cover: clinical assessment, prescription, the medicine and tracked delivery. At nume those are bundled into one figure, with no subscription and no hidden renewal fees.

NICE's appraisal of semaglutide for weight management (NICE TA875) provides the official NHS eligibility framework, which is useful context even if you are accessing treatment privately. Private eligibility through a regulated pharmacy is broader (adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above with a weight-related health condition, may be suitable) but a prescriber makes that call individually after a full clinical review. If you are also curious about how semaglutide compares across different devices and formulations, the semaglutide pen volume guide is a useful companion read.
