Start journey Learn moreEach Wegovy pen contains a fixed volume of semaglutide solution — typically around 1.5 ml per pre-filled device — though the exact fill and the concentration change at each dose step. That liquid figure rarely appears on price comparison sites, yet understanding it is the fastest way to work out whether you are comparing like for like when weighing up the cost of Wegovy in the UK. These are prescription-only medicines: a regulated prescriber must assess your suitability before any pen can be legally supplied, and that clinical step is part of what a legitimate price should cover.

The MHRA-approved Wegovy semaglutide injection comes in five dose strengths: 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1.0 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg, and since April 2026, a dedicated 7.2 mg single-dose pen approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or above. Each pen is pre-filled and delivers one weekly dose. The volume of liquid inside varies by strength because semaglutide is formulated at different concentrations across the dose ladder, and a higher dose does not simply mean a larger fill.
Practically, this means two pens at different steps can look identical in your hand yet contain quite different amounts of active medicine per millilitre. Novo Nordisk publishes the full concentration data in the Summary of Product Characteristics, which you can check on the Electronic Medicines Compendium, it takes under a minute to search by product name and pull up the exact specification for your current dose. That document is also where you will find the precise storage instructions; the room-temperature window is shorter than most people assume.
Why does the volume matter for cost? Because some advertised prices are quoted per pen rather than per month, and the number of pens in four weeks stays constant at one, but the physical contents, and therefore the manufacturing cost passed through the supply chain, differ. If you want to understand how much the 2.4 mg Wegovy pen costs compared with earlier steps on the dose ladder, that detail helps you spot when a quote for a 0.25 mg starter pen is not really comparable to a quote for a 2.4 mg maintenance pen, even if both say "Wegovy."
The NICE appraisal of semaglutide for weight management (NICE TA875) established the clinical framework, but most people accessing Wegovy privately sit outside that NHS route entirely. Private pricing reflects the licensed UK supply chain, which is separate from NHS procurement and subject to standard commercial margin at each stage.
What changes a headline price significantly is what surrounds the pen. Some providers quote the medicine cost alone and add a consultation fee, a prescription charge, and a delivery fee at checkout. Others bundle some but not all. A figure that looks attractive for the starter dose can feel very different once you account for the maintenance-dose price at 2.4 mg, where Eli Lilly's September 2025 list-price increase pushed Mounjaro's comparable pen from around £122 to around £330, a move that sent ripples through private-market pricing for GLP-1 medicines broadly, including Wegovy. For a realistic view of what Wegovy costs in the UK across all the dose steps, the full picture matters more than the opening figure.
There is a further variable most comparison tools ignore: clinical re-review at each repeat order. Some services automate this; others skip it. For a medicine titrated over months, the prescriber's involvement at each stage is not an optional extra, it is part of what makes supply legitimate.
We are not the cheapest option you will find. That is deliberate. A single transparent price at nume covers the clinical consultation, the prescription, the medicine at your current dose, and free next-working-day tracked delivery through DPD, alongside seven-day aftercare and a prescriber review before every repeat. There is no subscription pulling money from your account; no auto-renewal. Every order is a fresh clinical decision.
Our dispensing pharmacy is GPhC-registered (registration number 9012878, verifiable directly at the GPhC register), and medicines move through the Novo Nordisk authorised UK supply chain. The pen that arrives is the pen described on the label, correct volume, correct concentration, refrigerated in transit.
Current treatment pricing, laid out clearly by dose, is on our treatment page. If you want a broader sense of how private Wegovy costs compare across the dose steps, our Wegovy pen price guide walks through the structure without the small print.
For a prescription medicine, the question "how much liquid is in the pen" is genuinely useful for understanding concentration and comparing manufacturers' data, but it is the wrong yardstick for choosing a provider. The NHS semaglutide page sets out clearly that Wegovy is available only on prescription following clinical assessment, and the NHS guidance on semaglutide covers what that assessment involves.
Providers who skip or automate that clinical step are not offering a better service at a lower price. They are removing the part that makes the supply safe. The MHRA has warned repeatedly about counterfeit and illegally sold weight-loss pens, some have contained the wrong active ingredient entirely. If you are also researching costs elsewhere, our guide to how much Wegovy costs in New Zealand can offer useful context on how international pricing compares, though an online seller who does not verify your identity, check your weight or involve a prescriber is not offering you a deal; the risk profile is simply different, and not in your favour.
The right question is not which provider charges least per millilitre of semaglutide. It is which provider gives a prescriber the information they need to make a sound clinical decision, and then gets a genuine, correctly stored pen to your door the next working day. If you want to explore whether Wegovy is clinically suitable for you, our Wegovy overview page covers the evidence and eligibility, and you can use our Wegovy price checker to see exactly what you would pay at your current dose before you commit, or reach our clinical team through the contact page if you have questions before you start.
