The Mounjaro price rise: what changed and what to expect

Why did Mounjaro's price jump so sharply in September 2025?

Eli Lilly sets the ex-manufacturer list price that UK pharmacies and wholesalers pay for Mounjaro. Before September 2025, list prices were relatively low, partly because the medicine was still being established in the UK market. As demand grew and supply stabilised, Lilly repriced. The top-dose pen (15mg) moved from around £122 to around £330. Lower doses rose by smaller but still material amounts.

Private providers pass that cost through to patients, which is why the September 2025 price rise produced a visible jump in what people pay month to month. It is worth knowing that Lilly's list price is not the same as what any individual pharmacy charges, providers price their own service on top, which is why quotes vary across the market.

What does the quoted price often leave out?

Market price comparisons get complicated because headline figures rarely cover the same bundle. Some providers quote the medicine alone. Others include a consultation fee, billed separately once you've already committed to the process. Prescription charges, delivery fees and dose-review costs can all sit outside the number shown on a comparison site.

The practical result: a quote that looks £30 cheaper per month can easily end up costing the same, or more, once the extras are added. This is especially relevant now that the Mounjaro cost rise has compressed margins and some providers have responded by unbundling what they charge for.

Is cheapest the right thing to optimise for here?

For most goods, a lower price for an equivalent product is simply better value. Prescription medicines don't work that way. Mounjaro must travel through the licensed UK supply chain; a pen that arrives having bypassed that chain is not the same product at a lower price, it is a different (and potentially dangerous) product. The MHRA has warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold online, some of which have been found to contain insulin rather than tirzepatide.
