Mounjaro®

Start journey Learn moreStarting Mounjaro changes how your body signals hunger, so the food and supplies you reach for matter more than they did before. A practical shopping list for Mounjaro treatment typically covers high-protein staples, easy-to-digest foods for the early weeks when nausea is most likely, and a few everyday supplies that make injection days simpler. These are prescription-only medicines — what you actually take, and when doses change, is decided by a prescriber after a proper clinical assessment. But sorting your kitchen and bathroom cupboard before your first pen arrives is something you can do right now.

When appetite falls sharply, most people eat less without trying. That is the point. But there is a catch: if you eat less of everything equally, protein suffers most, because protein-rich foods tend to be more filling and, when you are already full, easier to skip. Over weeks and months that matters — muscle loss during significant calorie reduction is a real risk, and protein intake is one of the main levers for limiting it.
So the first thing to stock is straightforward: eggs, Greek yoghurt, cottage cheese, tinned fish, chicken breast, tofu, lentils, edamame. Foods that are high in protein relative to their volume and that are easy to prepare when appetite is low. You are not building a meal plan here; you are just removing the moment where you open the fridge, feel indifferent about food, and end up with toast.
Fibre is the second priority. Constipation is one of the more common side effects of tirzepatide, particularly in the first few weeks, and a diet that has gone quiet on vegetables and wholegrains tends to make it worse. Oats, tinned pulses, frozen vegetables, wholegrain bread and fruit are worth keeping stocked. The NHS healthy weight guidance covers the dietary principles that support this kind of structured change, it is a useful baseline to read alongside your prescriber's advice.
Not everyone feels sick on Mounjaro, but many do, especially around the first dose and after each increase. The nausea is usually mild and settles within a few days, though knowing that in advance is easier than discovering it after you have already ordered a large meal.
Practically: plain crackers, rice cakes, plain rice, toast, bananas and ginger (tea or biscuits) are the foods most people find tolerable when nausea is present. Small portions served at room temperature tend to be easier than hot, rich or fatty dishes. Low-fat cooking generally helps, too, fat slows gastric emptying further and Mounjaro already does that, so a meal heavy in fried food can sit uncomfortably.
Cold or room-temperature drinks are easier than very hot ones during nausea. Sparkling water or diluted squash can help if plain water feels unpleasant. The key is sipping steadily, dehydration from vomiting or diarrhoea can become significant if ignored, so this is one situation where resting and hydrating is genuinely the right call rather than pushing through. If you are wondering how Mounjaro works in more detail, our overview page covers the mechanism and what to expect across the full titration schedule.
Mounjaro arrives in a pre-filled KwikPen, each pen contains four weekly doses. It needs to be kept refrigerated between 2 °C and 8 °C; check the Patient Information Leaflet for the exact window if you ever need to take it out of the fridge temporarily, because that detail does change per product and you should not guess.
Before your pen arrives, it is worth having: a designated spot cleared in the fridge door (somewhere consistent so you never forget where it is), a sharps container for used needles, and a small stock of alcohol swabs for cleaning the injection site each week. Some people find setting a weekly phone reminder useful for keeping injections on the same day.
Your pen will arrive via DPD in plain, unbranded packaging, a tracked delivery straight to your door. It is worth making sure someone is home, or that you have set up a safe-place delivery, because refrigerated medicines should not sit in a parcel box in summer heat.
For a broader picture of what the treatment costs and what that covers, our Mounjaro cost page sets out how private pricing works in the UK. And if you have questions before you order, our FAQs cover the most common ones.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower thresholds can apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK guidance. BMI alone does not decide suitability, a prescriber looks at your full picture.
At nume, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reads every consultation personally. If you are approved, treatment is dispatched the same day for orders placed before noon, and tracked delivery follows the next working day. There is no subscription: each repeat is clinically re-reviewed before it goes out. If you are considering whether Mounjaro is right for you and want to understand what to look for when shopping for tirzepatide, our guide walks through the key questions to ask before you commit. Read more about our weight-loss treatment options, or go straight to the consultation.
It is also worth thinking ahead: if you ever decide to pause or finish treatment, our page on stopping Mounjaro covers how to approach that process safely, and our separate guide on what to expect after stopping Mounjaro explains how appetite and weight can change once the medication is no longer active.
The NHS also publishes patient-level information on tirzepatide, including its side-effect profile and contraindications, at nhs.uk/medicines/tirzepatide, it is worth a read before your first dose.
