Treating every injection like it needs an air-clearing shot wastes medicine and can mean you receive less than the intended dose.

Any cloudiness, particles or unusual colour means the pen should not be used. Contact your prescribing pharmacy immediately; do not attempt to use a replacement dose from the same pen.

The needle is not attached when the pen arrives. Needles compatible with Wegovy pens are fine-gauge and short; using the right type matters for both comfort and reliable delivery. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the pen or needle, this is the single step most often skipped in a hurry, and it matters for infection control. Wipe the injection site with an alcohol swab and let it dry fully before injecting; injecting through wet skin can sting and may reduce antiseptic effect.

Attaching the needle and choosing where to inject

Peel the paper tab off a new needle and screw or click it onto the pen according to your leaflet's instructions. Remove the outer and inner needle caps and keep the outer cap to hand, you will need it to remove the needle safely after the dose. Hold the pen in place for at least six seconds after pressing, this ensures the full dose is delivered before you withdraw. After injecting, replace the outer needle cap without touching the needle, unscrew it, and dispose of it in a puncture-resistant sharps container. Never put loose needles in household bins. Keep the pen capped and return it to the fridge if doses remain.

When something does not look right

If you press the button and nothing seems to happen (no click, no resistance change, no visible window movement) do not inject again immediately. Check the needle is attached correctly, then review your leaflet's troubleshooting section. Injecting a second time risks doubling your dose. Contact your prescriber or pharmacy the same day.

If you miss an injection entirely and more than five days have passed since your scheduled dose, skip that week and resume on your usual day the following week.
