How to Prepare Your Wegovy Pen Before Injecting

Step 1 — Take the pen out of the fridge and let it settle

Remove your Wegovy pen from the fridge and set it on a clean, flat surface. Step 2, Attach a fresh needle and prepare the injection site

To inject, hold the pen at a 90-degree angle to the skin (a slight angle may be appropriate if you have less subcutaneous tissue, check the leaflet). Press the pen firmly against the skin, then press and hold the dose button until the dose counter returns to zero. Keep the pen pressed against your skin for the count your leaflet specifies (typically around five to ten seconds) to ensure the full dose is delivered before withdrawing. Step 4, Safe disposal and a note on keeping records

Once the pen is withdrawn, do not rub the injection site. Place the outer needle cap back over the needle using a one-handed scooping motion, unscrew or unclick the needle from the pen, and drop it straight into a sharps container. Never dispose of needles in household bins or recycling. Replace the pen cap and return the pen to the fridge if there are remaining doses; discard the pen in the sharps bin once it is empty or once the stability window has been reached, whichever comes first.

It is worth keeping a simple note (even a note on your phone) of the day you injected and the site you used. This makes rotating sites straightforward and helps your prescriber if any questions come up at your next review.
