What Is the Price of Weight Loss Injections in the UK?

What the official evidence says about these medicines, and why that shapes pricing

Tirzepatide and semaglutide are not over-the-counter supplements. They are licensed medicines whose clinical profiles have been established through large, rigorous trials. In the SURMOUNT-1 study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, participants taking tirzepatide 15mg lost an average of around 20–21% of their body weight over 72 weeks. NICE reviewed that evidence before recommending tirzepatide for NHS use in Technology Appraisal TA1026, published December 2024. That regulatory journey (manufacturer submissions, safety databases, ongoing pharmacovigilance) is part of what you are paying for when you access these medicines through a legitimate supply chain.

Eli Lilly revised Mounjaro's UK list price from 1 September 2025, with the highest-dose pen rising from around £122 to around £330 at list level, as widely reported at the time. Private providers price above or around list depending on their cost base and what is included in the fee. A figure that looks low may simply be incomplete.

When you compare prices for weight loss injections in the UK, look carefully at what the quoted figure actually covers. Many providers charge separately for the initial consultation, the prescription, and delivery. Some operate on a subscription model that auto-renews. Others provide no aftercare once the pen has shipped.

A consultation fee can add £30–£80 on top of a low headline price. Next-day delivery, if offered at all, is often an optional extra. Dose-escalation reviews (which matter because both Mounjaro and Wegovy are titrated gradually by a prescriber) may trigger additional charges at each step. If a complication arises or you have a question mid-treatment, paid-for aftercare is not a given.

Why price is the wrong test for a prescription medicine

The MHRA has issued repeated warnings about fake weight loss pens sold online and through social media. In October 2025, enforcement teams raided the first known UK site manufacturing counterfeit tirzepatide pens, having seized roughly 20 million doses of illegally traded weight loss medicines at a street value of around £45 million. Some counterfeit pens seized in earlier operations contained insulin rather than the labelled medicine, leading to hospitalisations.

A seller offering these medicines without a clinical assessment, or at prices far below anything a legitimate supply chain could sustain, is a significant warning sign. The MHRA's Yellow Card scheme accepts reports of suspect sellers as well as side effects.
