Start journey Learn moreGetting Wegovy in the UK follows a clear sequence: a clinical assessment by a prescriber, a prescription issued only if you meet the licensed criteria, and dispensing through a GPhC-registered pharmacy. There are no shortcuts. As a prescription-only medicine, Wegovy cannot be legally supplied without that clinical assessment first. The steps below set out exactly how the process works, whether you are exploring NHS access or considering a regulated private route like our clinician-led service at nume.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is licensed in the UK for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or for those with a BMI of 27 to 29.9 who also have at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes. Lower BMI thresholds can apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. A BMI figure alone is not enough: the prescriber looks at the full picture, including your medical history, current medicines, and whether there are any contraindications.
Wegovy is not licensed for people under 18, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone who is trying to conceive. Certain conditions (including a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma) require specific prescriber discussion. If you want to get a sense of where you sit before starting a consultation, our Wegovy overview page explains the licensed criteria in plain detail. The NHS BMI calculator is also a practical first check: calculate your BMI on the NHS website.
A question our prescribers hear most weeks is whether someone can start at a higher dose to speed things up. The answer is no: the titration schedule exists for good clinical reasons, not administrative ones, and is decided by the prescriber based on your individual response.
The only lawful route to Wegovy is through a licensed prescriber following a proper assessment. On the NHS this happens via a specialist weight management service or, increasingly, through GP practices participating in the new prescribing arrangements from April 2026. Waiting lists for NHS access are often long, and NICE's recommendation for semaglutide (TA875) ties NHS supply to a two-year maximum within a multidisciplinary service, so not everyone qualifies or can access it quickly.
A regulated private online pharmacy offers the same clinical rigour without the waiting list. At nume, the process starts with a structured consultation that covers your health history, current medications, weight journey, and identity. Every response is read by a named GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber on the day you submit it. If clinically suitable, a prescription is issued; if not, you are told why, and there is no charge. You can check any online pharmacy's registration status directly on the GPhC register, nume's registration number is 9012878.
For the consultation to move forward, photo ID verification and live weight confirmation on video are required. These are not bureaucratic hurdles; they are safety steps that protect you and ensure the clinical record is accurate from the start.
Once the prescriber approves your prescription, dispensing happens through our GPhC-registered pharmacy, sourcing medicines through the licensed UK supply chain. Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk authorised supplier relationships underpin every order, the same manufacturers as the product in your GP's surgery. Submit your consultation before noon on a working day and the pen is dispatched the same afternoon, arriving with DPD the next working day. Tracking details land on your phone; the packaging is plain and unbranded.
If you would like to understand more about how ordering works in practice when you order Wegovy online, the ordering process page covers each stage. The full dose titration sequence is set out separately, since many people want to see the complete schedule before they begin. Every repeat order at nume goes through the same clinical review, there are no auto-renewals and no subscription trap.
For general questions about the treatment or the process, our FAQs are a useful starting point before you begin.
The MHRA has issued repeated warnings about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold online and via social media. In October 2025 the first illicit UK site producing fake tirzepatide pens was raided, and enforcement operations through 2025 resulted in around 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines (worth roughly £45 million) being seized. Some counterfeit pens have been found to contain insulin, which can be acutely dangerous. The MHRA's Yellow Card scheme allows you to report a suspect seller as well as any side effects.
The red flags are consistent: sellers offering Wegovy or any GLP-1 medicine without a prescription, prices far below the market range, social-media listings, and discount codes from unverifiable sources. A legitimate pharmacy will always require a prescriber's assessment, will be verifiable on the GPhC register, and will never advertise these medicines with promotional codes. If something feels off, it probably is. For a prescription medicine, the right question is not who charges least, it is who can demonstrate a genuine clinical process and a traceable supply chain.
If you are considering starting treatment and want to understand how to order semaglutide safely and through the right channels, that is a reasonable place to begin before committing to a consultation.
