What arrives, and what the clinical process looks like before it does

Once a prescriber approves an order, the physical process is straightforward. Eligibility: who these injections are licensed for

The licensed criteria for Mounjaro and Wegovy are set by the medicines' UK marketing authorisations. Adults with a BMI of 30 or above qualify on BMI alone. Those with a BMI between 27 and 29.9 qualify if they have at least one weight-related condition, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea and cardiovascular disease are the main examples. BMI alone doesn't guarantee a prescription. The prescriber looks at the whole clinical picture: current medicines, relevant medical history, and whether weight loss treatment is appropriate for you right now. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and trying to conceive are situations where these medicines are not recommended. They are not licensed for under-18s. Side effects and what to watch for during treatment

The most common side effects of both Mounjaro and Wegovy are gastrointestinal: nausea, loose stools, constipation, indigestion and burping appear most often in the first few weeks or after a dose increase, then typically settle. Fatigue, headache and dizziness are also reported. A small number of more serious effects need prompt attention. The MHRA issued specific guidance in January 2026 highlighting acute pancreatitis as an infrequent but potentially serious risk: severe stomach pain that doesn't ease, particularly if it spreads to the back, is a reason to get urgent medical help rather than wait. Gallbladder problems, signs of a serious allergic reaction, and severe dehydration from prolonged vomiting or diarrhoea also warrant same-day clinical contact.
