In the UK, you can only buy Mounjaro (tirzepatide) through a valid prescription issued after a clinical assessment — it is a Prescription-Only Medicine and cannot be sold across a pharmacy counter or online without one. The legal routes are an NHS prescriber or a regulated private service such as a GPhC-registered online pharmacy. That single fact rules out every social-media seller, marketplace listing and "no-assessment" website you may have seen. A prescriber reviews your health, decides whether the medicine is appropriate for you, and issues the prescription. Only then can a pharmacy dispense it.

How to buy Mounjaro safely: the process from consultation to delivery

Step 1: understand the only legal route to Mounjaro in the UK

Mounjaro is a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Because it is a Prescription-Only Medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, no pharmacy (online or high street) can lawfully supply it without a valid prescription from a registered prescriber. That means any listing offering Mounjaro without a prior clinical assessment is operating outside the law.

The two lawful routes are the NHS and regulated private services. NHS access to Mounjaro is phased and criteria-based: from June 2025 you generally need a BMI of 40 or above plus four or more qualifying conditions, with thresholds broadening over the next two years. Most people asking where to buy Mounjaro in the UK are exploring the private route because they don't meet the current NHS criteria, or simply don't want to wait. Both are legitimate; what matters is that whichever route you take, a qualified prescriber makes the call.

For the private route, the safest starting point is a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, and if you want a clear summary of where you can buy Mounjaro through legal channels, our guide walks through your options. You can do that in under a minute: go to the GPhC register and search the pharmacy's registration number. If a pharmacy isn't listed, walk away.

Step 2: complete a clinical consultation and get assessed

At a regulated private service, the process starts with a structured health questionnaire, medical history, current medicines, weight, BMI, and any conditions that might affect suitability. This isn't a formality. Tirzepatide is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea. For some South Asian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds, the threshold is 2.5 kg/m² lower under UK guidance. A prescriber also checks for contraindications (certain thyroid conditions, a history of pancreatitis, pregnancy or plans to conceive) before issuing any prescription.

At nume, a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber personally reviews every consultation the same day. Identity is verified with a photo ID check; weight is confirmed on a live video call. Patients transferring from another provider, or requesting a dose increase, provide evidence of their current treatment before anything changes. You can read more about what the assessment looks at if you want the detail before you start.

The NHS describes the clinical criteria for tirzepatide in its guidance on weight-management medicines; NICE's appraisal of tirzepatide (NICE TA1026) sets out the evidence behind those thresholds.

Step 3: what happens between prescription and your front door

Once a prescription is issued, dispensing happens from the pharmacy's licensed UK supply chain. Mounjaro arrives as a KwikPen (each pen contains four weekly doses) and needs to be refrigerated at 2–8°C on arrival. Keep it stored correctly; the Patient Information Leaflet gives the exact room-temperature window for days you're travelling, and that's the document to follow rather than any third-party summary.

With nume, orders placed before 12pm on a working day are dispatched the same day and delivered free the next working day by DPD. The packaging is plain and unbranded. There is no subscription: every repeat order goes through a fresh clinical review before dispensing. Questions at any point go to the aftercare team, seven days a week. You can find out more about buying Mounjaro online and what a compliant process looks like.

Red flags: what to avoid when looking for Mounjaro online

The MHRA has been explicit on this. In October 2023 the agency warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss pens circulating online; enforcement continued through 2025, with approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines seized (roughly £45 million street value) and the first illicit UK manufacturing site for fake tirzepatide pens raided. Some counterfeit pens have contained insulin, which caused hospitalisations. The MHRA's Yellow Card scheme accepts reports of suspect sellers alongside side-effect reports.

Red flags to watch for: sellers who supply medicines without a prescription, social-media sellers, marketplaces where the seller has no verifiable pharmacy registration, prices far below what regulated providers charge, and any site advertising discount codes or vouchers for a Prescription-Only Medicine. These signals don't mean a low price, they mean genuine risk. If you're unsure about a seller, the GPhC register check described above takes sixty seconds and tells you everything you need to know.

For a broader look at everything Mounjaro involves (how it works, eligibility in more depth, and what clinical trial evidence says) the Mounjaro overview on our site covers it in full. And if the question is specifically about sourcing a particular strength, the 5mg Mounjaro guide covers the considerations around individual doses.
