Mounjaro®

Start journey Learn moreBuying Mounjaro in Tenerife is possible in theory (tirzepatide is available in Spanish pharmacies) but a Spanish prescription does not carry legal weight in the UK, and any stock you bring back cannot be dispensed or restarted through a UK NHS service. For a UK resident, the only legally valid route to Mounjaro is a UK prescription issued after a clinical assessment by a registered prescriber. That means whether you pick it up abroad or not, your treatment needs a UK clinical foundation. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine in the UK and must be assessed by a prescriber before you can legally receive it here.

Spanish pharmacies dispense tirzepatide (sold as Mounjaro) against a Spanish prescription. If you are on holiday and your supply runs out, some travellers have been able to obtain an emergency supply locally, but this is at the discretion of the Spanish pharmacist, involves a consultation in Spanish, and any medicine you purchase is for use there and then. Importing prescription medicines into the UK for personal use sits in a legal grey area: HMRC and the MHRA permit small personal quantities, but the medicine still requires a valid UK prescription before a UK pharmacy can legally top it up. You cannot hand a Spanish script to a British pharmacist and expect it to be honoured.
There is also a more practical concern. Mounjaro must be stored refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C. A long-haul flight home, a sun-drenched hotel room, or a suitcase in the hold can break that cold chain. The Mounjaro patient information leaflet sets out the exact room-temperature window; if that window is exceeded, the pen should not be used. Always check the Mounjaro SmPC on the eMC for current storage guidance before travelling with any dose.
The bottom line: if you want to buy Mounjaro safely and with clinical continuity, buying a pen in Tenerife does not give you a continuing UK prescription, and returning home without one means a gap in treatment. Gaps matter clinically, your prescriber decides what happens next.
The MHRA has documented fake tirzepatide pens circulating in the UK, the first illicit manufacturing site was raided in Northampton in October 2025, and earlier enforcement seized roughly 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines worth around £45 million. The risk is not abstract. Some counterfeit pens have contained insulin; others have contained nothing clinically useful. A pen bought from a holiday-destination pharmacy with a genuine local prescription is not the same risk as one bought from a social-media seller, but it still does not give you the UK clinical continuity you need. The MHRA's public guidance on reporting suspect sellers via the Yellow Card scheme is worth bookmarking if you ever see weight-loss pens offered outside a regulated pharmacy setting.
For ongoing, legal treatment in the UK, the process is straightforward. You complete a clinical consultation, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, and (if clinically suitable) a UK prescription is issued and dispensed through a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register. That is the chain that protects you. Any provider worth trusting sits in it.
Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, or obstructive sleep apnoea. Lower BMI thresholds can apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK guidance. A prescriber considers the whole picture (medical history, current medicines, previous treatment) not the number alone. If you are transferring from treatment started elsewhere, including abroad, you will need to provide evidence of your current dose before a prescriber can continue it. That is clinical due diligence, not red tape. You can read more about the eligibility criteria in detail if you want to assess your own situation before consulting.
At nume, the process runs like this: fill in a free online consultation, upload photo ID, confirm your weight on a brief video call, and a prescriber reviews everything the same day. If approved, your first order can be dispatched that afternoon, place it before 12pm and it arrives the next working day. The same clinical review applies to every repeat, so there are no auto-renewals where no one is watching. Our clinical team's approach is described on the clinical team page if you want to understand who is reviewing your care.
Plan ahead. A two-week holiday is a predictable supply gap, and prescribers can factor travel into timing. Bring enough treatment for the duration, store it correctly (the pen information leaflet tells you exactly how long it can be kept outside the fridge, check it before you pack), and keep it in your carry-on luggage with documentation of your prescription. Many patients find it helpful to bring a copy of their prescription or a letter from their prescriber when travelling internationally; airport security occasionally asks.
If you do run short abroad and obtain an emergency supply locally, tell your UK prescriber when you return. They need to know what you took, when, and at what dose before issuing your next UK prescription. If you have been wondering whether you can buy Mounjaro and how the process works, or have questions such as where and how you can buy Mounjaro in the UK, it is also worth checking whether Mounjaro is available in tablet form before you travel so you know exactly what to expect from your next supply. For any questions about your specific situation, our support team is reachable through the contact page seven days a week. Speak to our prescribers to get your UK prescription in place before you go, or as soon as you are back.
