The biggest misconception: the advertised price is not always the full price

Search for weight loss injection prices and you'll find a wide spread of numbers. Some look reassuringly low. The important question to ask is what sits underneath them.

Many headline prices cover the medicine alone. Consultation fees, prescription charges, clinical review at each dose step, delivery costs, and any support when side effects appear can all be billed separately, and legitimately so, since each involves real clinical or logistical work. A price that looks affordable at a glance can reach considerably more once those components are added.

Eli Lilly, the manufacturer of Mounjaro, raised the UK list price of the medicine from 1 September 2025. The highest dose pen moved from around £122 to around £330, as widely reported at the time. Private providers price around those list figures, which is why current market rates across providers sit roughly in the £149–£375 per month range depending on dose, as reported across UK pharmacy pricing since that change. Those figures are the honest context, but they are not the ceiling and they are not the floor, shop around and you'll find both.

What the monthly price should actually cover, and why it matters

A legitimate monthly price for a prescription weight loss injection should include at minimum: the medicine itself, a valid UK prescription written by a qualified prescriber, and safe delivery. Beyond that, a good service wraps in clinical assessment before the first order, a review before each repeat, and a way to reach someone if you have questions between doses.

The reason this matters is clinical, not commercial. Mounjaro and Wegovy are titrated medicines (doses increase over weeks and months) and that titration carries responsibility. A prescriber needs to confirm it's safe to step up, check that any side effects are manageable, and consider interactions with other medicines. A service that charges separately for each of those touchpoints is not providing bad care, but you should know they exist before you commit.

Why 'cheapest' is the wrong test for a prescription medicine

Price is a reasonable starting question. It becomes the wrong question when it crowds out the one that actually matters: is this medicine genuine, and is it being prescribed safely?

The MHRA has seized approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight loss medicines worth around £45 million, and in October 2025 raided the UK's first illicit manufacturing site producing counterfeit tirzepatide pens. Fake pens have contained insulin. They have put people in hospital. The common thread in almost every case reported publicly is a seller offering these medicines without a prescription, often at prices that undercut the legitimate market.

You can verify any online pharmacy on the GPhC pharmacy register. If a seller cannot be found there, do not use them. Report suspect sellers and any adverse events via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. A small saving does not compensate for the clinical risk of a counterfeit pen, or for treatment that proceeds without the assessment a prescriber is trained to carry out.
