At the 2.4mg maintenance dose, adults in the STEP 1 trial lost an average of around 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks — roughly 15 kg for someone starting at 100 kg. That figure comes from the STEP 1 trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity. Weight loss on 2.4mg Wegovy varies between individuals; a prescriber assesses whether it is clinically suitable for you, because semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine.

What the 2.4mg dose costs in the UK, and what that price should actually cover

Step 1, understand what the 2.4mg dose is and what the trial results actually mean

Wegovy's 2.4mg dose is not where treatment begins. The licensed schedule starts at 0.25mg and moves upward in roughly four-week steps (0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg, then 2.4mg) guided by a prescriber who is watching how your body responds. Reaching 2.4mg typically takes around five months. The results page for the wider Wegovy journey covers what people lose across the full course, but the 2.4mg endpoint is where the headline figures come from.

The STEP 1 trial enrolled adults with obesity and no diabetes. Average weight reduction at 68 weeks was about 15%, but that masks a real spread: some participants lost considerably more, others less. Biology, starting weight, diet quality and activity all pull in different directions. The MHRA's own guidance is clear that these medicines are not assessed for quick or cosmetic weight loss, they are for people with clinically significant weight to manage. If you are curious how results compare at earlier doses, the 1mg results give useful context on how the trajectory builds.

One thing worth clearing up gently: a common assumption is that the highest licensed dose means the fastest possible loss from week one. In practice the dose increases exist partly to reduce the nausea and digestive discomfort that can come with GLP-1 medicines. Starting low and going slowly is the design, not a delay.

Step 2, know what private Wegovy pricing in the UK actually includes (and what it often does not)

Private Wegovy treatment at 2.4mg is priced per monthly supply, and what you pay varies by provider. Since Eli Lilly's September 2025 list-price increase for Mounjaro brought broader attention to GLP-1 pricing across the board, reported private prices for semaglutide have typically ranged from roughly £149 to £375 a month depending on dose and supplier, hedged figures, not a quote for any specific provider. The Wegovy price page goes into more detail on how that range breaks down.

What that headline figure sometimes does not include is worth knowing before you compare. Consultation fees, prescription charges, delivery costs and ongoing clinical support are sometimes listed separately or rolled into the first order only. If dose-review support or aftercare require a separate subscription, the real monthly spend is higher than the pen price alone suggests. Scotland has its own private pricing landscape, covered on the Wegovy Scotland price page.

At nume, there is one price. It covers the free consultation, the prescription, the treatment, next-working-day DPD delivery, and clinical aftercare seven days a week. No subscription. Every repeat order goes through a fresh clinical review, the same approach our prescribers describe on the about us page. We are not the cheapest option out there, and we made that choice deliberately. What we are is transparent.

Step 3, why cheapest is the wrong question for a prescription medicine

For a prescription-only medicine, the lowest price is not a meaningful measure of value. Semaglutide must be dispensed by a pharmacy registered with the GPhC; every supply requires a valid prescription following a clinical assessment of your health. You can verify any online pharmacy at the GPhC pharmacy register, look for the premises registration number and confirm it is current.

Sellers offering these medicines without going through clinical assessment are either operating outside the law or supplying something other than genuine medicine. The MHRA has warned repeatedly about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold via social media and unofficial online channels, with fake products seized in large numbers across 2024 and 2025. A price far below the market range, or a seller who cannot point you to a verified pharmacy registration, is a sign worth taking seriously. You can report suspect sellers directly through the MHRA's Yellow Card scheme.

The clinical oversight matters as much as the medicine itself. Wegovy affects how your body absorbs other medicines, oral contraceptives and certain other medications may need to be reviewed while you are on treatment. A prescriber who reads your full health picture before each supply, not just at sign-up, is part of what makes treatment safe over months and years. Our weight loss treatment overview explains how that process works at every stage.

If you would like to know what weight loss at earlier doses tends to look like before reaching 2.4mg, the pages on the 0.5mg stage and the 1.7mg stage cover the evidence at those points. And if you want a weekly rather than overall view, the week-by-week breakdown addresses that directly.
