Start journey Learn moreThe STEP 1 trial, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, followed 1,961 adults over 68 weeks and found an average body-weight reduction of around 15% at the 2.4mg weekly dose. That result turned Wegovy into one of the most searched medicines in the UK. Most people looking for Wegovy online are doing something entirely sensible: trying to understand whether it could help them, and where to get it safely. Wegovy (semaglutide) is a prescription-only medicine, so the answer to both questions starts with a clinical assessment.

The STEP 1 results were striking enough to be reported far outside medical journals. An average loss of around 15% of body weight in under a year and a half, in adults without diabetes, was a scale of effect not previously seen from a licensed medicine. That figure comes from the 2.4mg maintenance dose, reached after a gradual titration that typically spans several months. The prescriber manages that schedule; the dose ladder exists to reduce side effects, not to delay results.
The picture shifted again in January 2026, when the MHRA approved 7.2mg as a higher maintenance dose, initially using three standard pens weekly. By April 2026 a dedicated single-dose 7.2mg pen was approved, one injection a week, simpler to use, with a covered needle that locks after the dose. Trial data at 7.2mg reported average weight loss of around 20.7% over 72 weeks, closing the gap with tirzepatide results seen in the SURMOUNT programme. If you want to read the MHRA's own account of that approval, it is published on GOV.UK.
None of this means every dose suits every person. A prescriber assesses weight, health history, other medicines, and contraindications before deciding which starting point is right. The evidence tells you what the treatment can do; the consultation tells you whether it makes sense for you specifically.
Searching online for Wegovy is a reasonable first step. NHS waiting lists for specialist weight management services, through which semaglutide is recommended under NICE guidance, are long in most areas. Private prescription services, including regulated online pharmacies, offer an alternative route for people who meet the clinical criteria but cannot access NHS treatment quickly. If you are exploring that route, our Wegovy shop online page explains how the ordering process works through a registered pharmacy.
The complication is that the same search surfaces both regulated pharmacies and sellers operating outside the law. A GPhC-registered pharmacy is legally required to obtain a valid prescription from a registered prescriber before dispensing Wegovy; a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register has met inspection standards for safe storage, dispensing and patient care. Sellers offering Wegovy without requiring a prescription, at prices far below the current private market, or through social media are red flags. The MHRA's counterfeit-pen warnings are worth reading before you order from anywhere; fake pens have in some cases contained insulin, which carries serious risks. You can check and report through the Yellow Card scheme.
For a straightforward sense of the cost landscape (what private treatment typically costs and what a legitimate price should include) the Wegovy price guide on this site covers the current picture honestly.
A compliant online route for a prescription-only medicine follows a fixed sequence. First, you complete a medical consultation; a GPhC-registered Independent Prescriber reviews your answers and, where appropriate, confirms your identity and current weight. At nume, that review is done by a real clinician on the same day, not processed automatically. If treatment is clinically suitable, a prescription is issued and the pharmacy dispenses the medicine.
Wegovy pens require refrigeration, between 2°C and 8°C is the standard storage range detailed in the Patient Information Leaflet. Many people keep a spare pen in the fridge door alongside everyday items; it is worth knowing before you order that you will need consistent cold storage at home, and that any travel plans need a bit of advance thought. The exact room-temperature window for short periods is specified in the leaflet that comes with your pen; follow that rather than any general figure online.
Once your prescription is issued, a courier-tracked, plain-packaged delivery is the norm for registered services. Our prescribers review every repeat order before it is dispensed, no auto-renewals, no assumptions that last month's assessment still applies. If you have questions about the process or what aftercare looks like, the FAQs page has more detail, or you can get in touch directly. You can also reach a clinician through our Wegovy help line, which is there for questions that come up between orders or during your titration.
The UK licence covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 29.9 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea or type 2 diabetes. Lower BMI thresholds apply for some ethnic backgrounds under UK clinical guidance. BMI is a starting point for eligibility, not a guarantee of approval; a prescriber weighs the full picture.
Wegovy is not licensed for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and is not recommended for people actively trying to conceive. It is not licensed for under-18s. People with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 should not take it. These exclusions, and a wider set of contraindications, are covered in the consultation and detailed in the SmPC on the electronic Medicines Compendium.
The Wegovy treatment overview on this site covers eligibility, the dosing schedule and what to expect in more depth. And if you are weighing Wegovy against tirzepatide, the weight-loss treatments page sets out both options side by side. When you are ready to take the clinical step, you can but Wegovy online through a free same-day consultation with our prescribers, speak to our prescribers through a free consultation, the same day, no waiting list.
