Step 2, the dosing schedule and the daily ritual that makes it work

The escalation runs: 1.5mg for at least one month, then 4mg, then 9mg, then 25mg at maintenance. Each step gives your system time to settle before the dose rises. Patients who are already established on the 2.4mg injection may be able to move directly to the 25mg tablet, but that decision sits with your prescriber after a clinical review.

The daily routine is straightforward once it becomes habit. First thing in the morning, before the kettle goes on, you take the tablet with no more than a small sip of plain water. Then you wait at least 30 minutes before any food, coffee, or other oral medicine. The tablet should be swallowed whole. That window is non-negotiable, it is the gap that makes absorption possible. Step 3, checking whether you meet the licensed criteria

The MHRA licence covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 to 29.9 alongside at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, or obstructive sleep apnoea. A BMI figure alone does not confirm suitability, a prescriber reviews the whole picture, including your medical history, current medicines, and any conditions that would make treatment unsuitable.

The Wegovy pill is not licensed for use in pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or for anyone trying to conceive. People under 18 are also outside the licensed population. Certain conditions, including a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma and a history of pancreatitis, require careful prescriber assessment.
