Start journey Learn moreWegovy prices in the UK are set privately and have not fallen in any sustained way since the medicine launched here. For now, a single month of semaglutide for weight management costs roughly £150–£375 depending on dose and provider, and there is no confirmed timeline for a price reduction. That said, several forces could shift costs over the next few years, and knowing what drives the current price helps you weigh your options. Wegovy is a prescription-only medicine; a prescriber assesses clinical suitability before any treatment begins.

Wegovy is still under patent protection in the UK, which means Novo Nordisk sets the list price without generic competition. The manufacturer, the licensed UK wholesaler, and the pharmacy each have costs built into that final figure, regulatory compliance, cold-chain logistics, clinical staff, and dispensing infrastructure. None of those disappear because a patient shops around.
Demand has outpaced supply at several points since Wegovy launched, and shortage pressure tends to hold prices up rather than push them down. Our Wegovy price guide covers the current range in detail, but the short version is that anything quoted well below the typical market rate deserves scrutiny before you hand over a card number.
It is also worth noting that Eli Lilly raised the UK list price for Mounjaro significantly from September 2025 (the highest dose moving from around £122 to around £330 per four-week pen), which signals that manufacturers in this market are not under obvious pressure to cut. Wegovy pricing has followed a similar logic. Whether Wegovy's price will go up further is a separate question from whether it will come down, and we have covered that angle too.
There are genuine reasons the picture might look different in two or three years. Patent expiry opens the door to biosimilar semaglutide, which tends to exert real downward pressure once approved, though biosimilars for injectable biologics typically take longer to reach market than standard generics, and the timeline and conditions under which Wegovy might go down in price are worth understanding before making any long-term budget assumptions. Broader NHS access under NICE's appraisal of Wegovy (TA875) could also shift the private market indirectly, as more patients move to subsidised treatment and providers compete harder for those who remain private.
Increased manufacturing capacity is another factor. Novo Nordisk has invested heavily in expanding production, and if supply catches up with demand the conditions for price competition improve. The April 2026 approval of a dedicated 7.2mg single-dose Wegovy pen by the MHRA added a higher-dose option to the market, new formats sometimes reshape how services are priced, though there is no evidence this has reduced costs yet.
If you are tracking price movements closely, our pages on whether Wegovy is coming down in price and whether it has already dropped are kept current as the situation develops.
When you see a monthly price quoted for Wegovy online, it is worth checking what is actually included. Some providers charge separately for the consultation, the prescription, or follow-up support. Delivery fees add up. Dose-review appointments (which matter, because semaglutide is titrated gradually and your prescriber needs to assess progress) can appear as extras on top of the medicine cost.
Payday and the start of the month see a surge in online searches for weight-loss treatments; it is easy to make a quick decision on a headline price without reading the small print. A provider who quotes £X for the pen and then invoices separately for the clinical review has not really given you a lower price, they have split it.
For a fuller picture of what is likely included and excluded at different price points, our breakdown of what Wegovy typically costs works through this in plain terms. You can also read about lower-cost alternatives if budget is the main factor in your decision.
A prescriber's job is to check that this medicine is right for you, your weight history, any other conditions, what other medicines you take, how your kidneys are doing. That clinical work takes time and expertise. It does not happen automatically inside the cost of a pen. The NHS's own weight management injections guidance is clear that these medicines sit within a broader support structure for good reason.
Counterfeit pens are a real and documented problem. The MHRA has warned publicly about fake semaglutide and tirzepatide products sold online, some containing insulin rather than the labelled medicine. The reliably safe route is a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register. Sellers offering these medicines without a prescription, or pitching dramatic discounts with no clinical process attached, are red flags, not bargains. You can report anything suspicious to the MHRA via the Yellow Card scheme.
At nume, we are deliberately not the lowest-priced option. One transparent price covers the consultation, the prescription, the medicine, delivery, and aftercare, nothing billed separately. Our clinical team reviews every consultation in person; a real prescriber reads your answers the same day. If you want to know whether Wegovy is right for you and what that involves, start your free consultation and a prescriber will take it from there.
