The Mounjaro KwikPen is designed to deliver four measured weekly doses per pen. Each dose is dispensed automatically when you press and hold the button — there is no way to manually extract more medicine beyond what the pen is set to release, and attempting to do so can compromise the dose you have already received. That said, a few straightforward technique points help make sure you are getting the full dose every time, rather than leaving medicine behind through an avoidable misstep. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine; a clinical assessment is required before any prescription can be issued.

The pen, the myth, and what the injection technique actually requires

The misconception worth clearing up first

A lot of people who search for how to get the last bit out of a Mounjaro pen arrive here because they felt resistance at the end of an injection and wondered whether they stopped too early. The belief tends to be: there is a reservoir of medicine left behind if you release the button too soon. That is understandable (it is how some older syringe-style devices work) but the KwikPen operates differently.

The pen does not contain more medicine than the four doses it is pre-set to deliver. Each dose is dispensed by a fixed, calibrated mechanism. Pressing the button initiates delivery; you need to hold it down for a full ten seconds before withdrawing the needle, so that the last portion of the dose clears the needle tip and enters the skin rather than remaining in the cannula. If you release early, that small tail-end of the dose genuinely does not reach you. If you want to understand how to get the rest of the Mounjaro out of the pen correctly, the answer comes down to that timing, not a hidden reservoir.

You can read more about getting the most from each Mounjaro dose in our dedicated guide, but the summary is: the pen is not holding back on you. It is doing exactly what it was designed to do, provided the injection technique is followed correctly.

Injection steps that prevent leaving medicine behind

The best results from Mounjaro start with consistent, careful technique. The steps below reflect the guidance published in the patient information leaflet and the Mounjaro Summary of Product Characteristics on the electronic Medicines Compendium (eMC); your prescriber or our clinical team can talk through anything that feels unclear.

Before injecting, check that the pen is at room temperature, a pen used straight from the fridge can feel more resistant and may feel as though it has not discharged fully. Pinch the skin gently at your chosen site (abdomen, outer thigh, or upper arm, rotating sites each week), insert the needle at a right angle, and press the injection button all the way down. Then count to ten, slowly, before you withdraw. That ten-second hold is the single step most people skip or cut short. It gives the full volume time to pass through the needle and into the subcutaneous tissue.

Once you withdraw, check the injection button: a yellow marker visible in the window confirms the dose has been delivered. If it is not showing yellow, contact our clinical team or your prescriber rather than attempting another injection. Our guide on how to get the golden dose out of your Mounjaro pen covers this confirmation step in more detail alongside storage and rotation advice.

What to do when the pen is genuinely finished

After the fourth dose, the KwikPen is empty. There is no fifth dose to unlock; attempting to use an exhausted pen will not deliver medicine and may cause skin trauma. Dispose of used pens in a sharps container (not in household recycling or general waste) following your local council's collection instructions.

If you are wondering how to get the most from Mounjaro across your full course of treatment, rather than just from the pen itself, that is a different question with a broader answer: consistent injection timing, the lifestyle support your prescriber discusses with you, and having your dose reviewed at the right points all matter far more than technique alone.

When it is time for your next pen, repeat orders through nume go through a clinical re-review before dispatch, every time, not just at the start. That review looks at how the current dose is working before the next pen is sent. It is one of the things that distinguishes a regulated pharmacy service from a box arriving without any clinical oversight.

Getting Mounjaro through a legitimate UK route

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine in the UK. The only legal route to it is a prescription issued after a proper clinical assessment, which means no legitimate seller can offer it without one. The MHRA has warned publicly about counterfeit weight-loss pens sold online and via social media, including fake pens that have contained insulin rather than tirzepatide; enforcement in 2025 included seizure of approximately 20 million doses of illegally traded weight-loss medicines (worth around £45m). The MHRA Yellow Card service accepts reports of suspect sellers as well as suspected side effects.

To verify that an online pharmacy is genuine before you order, check the GPhC pharmacy register, every legitimate registered pharmacy appears there. You can verify our pharmacy using GPhC premises number 9012878. Red flags include prices that sit well below the market range, sellers offering the medicine without any clinical assessment, and discount codes on prescription medicines from unrecognised sources.

Private licensed eligibility follows the Mounjaro SmPC: adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 and above with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or obstructive sleep apnoea. BMI alone is not the whole picture; a prescriber considers your full health history. Our clinical team reviews each consultation individually. If you are ready to find out whether Mounjaro is clinically suitable for you and want to buy Mounjaro online for weight loss, speak to our prescribers, the consultation is free, and the clinical review happens the same day.
